how important are SATII ?

how important are SATII scores in the admission process?
i got a 790 and a 650 and im wondering if i should retake the 650.
thanks in advance, im very confused about this!

Chicago does not require SAT 2s for admission.

retake it just in case, these extra tests are not a big deal, wouldn't hurt to send the 790 as it is so high.

No need to retake, I'd say.

My scores were lower, by the way.

SATs are hardly important, so SAT IIs, I'd venture to guess, are hardly considered. I'd feel fine about those scores. I have a 600 SAT II that I may be retaking though.

I just sent in my ACT as my SAT scores were pretty bad. That also means Chicago never even saw my SATII scores as well, so I guess it matters not.

I didn't even send them, and still got in. The only scores they had from me were my ACT and one AP.

good luck getting into a college

sarah,
A 650 in and of it self won't make or break an application. I am not sure of how Chicago, specifically, would view the 650, but in general it would be better to raise the score IF its not going to interfere with something more important, such as your senior first semester grades or completing your applications in good order.

corranged and I should start an admitted-with-650's-and-lower club.

If it's really bugging you, retake it (i.e. the hassle of re-studying and stressing out about it and possibly even doing worse is worth the stress of seeing the 650). I agree completely that it won't make or break your application.

Say that you want to be a Romance Language major, though, and you've studied abroad in France, and you adore French and write your essay about the French language, at that point the 650 might be a little bit questionable on applications. However, I could just as easily see an admissions committee dismissing the poorly-written and poorly-administered test in favor of other indications of your strengths as a student and as a person.

Yup. My three were 620, 640, 700. Note that I had 5s on four AP tests in related subject areas for two of them and a great rec from the teacher of third.

To give you the flip side, the valedictorian from my class had 5 SATII's (800, 800, 790, 780, 770) and was rejected.

"SATs are hardly important" I really think that's untrue, otherwise they wouldn't be required

^^ but they aren't.

I'm just going by Libby's thread, but she really emphasized that when it comes down to it, SAT scores aren't all that important at Chicago. I believe she even said that low SAT scores themselves definitely won't keep you out of going, and high SAT scores really won't do all that much for getting you in. But most intelligent kids tend to do well on the SATS, leading to most of the kids that go to Chicago having high scores anyway.

You know, I know i'm not some professional, but if I had to guess, SAT II scores are weighted just as much at U of C as they are elsewhere. I mean, I know UChicago is known to not put that much emphasis no test scores, but I think most of that applies to the SAT I. I would retake the 650, just in case.

SAT II's are not required. If you're sending in the SAT, though, I think the subject tests hop along for the ride.

The only thing that completely unimportant is the SAT I writing score which they black out. They don't require SAT IIs but they do look at them.

That said, there are better things to do with your life than prepping for and repeating tests. Use some common sense.

Seeing as Chicago doesn't require SAT II's and does require either SATs or ACTs, it wouldn't make much sense that they value the subject tests as much as other schools, or value them higher than the regular SATs. If they valued them more than the SATs, they'd require them, or at least recommend that students take them.

Yeah but doesn't Yale have the same exact policy as UChicago's in place? What I'm saying is that they might not be required, SAT II's will probably matter. I mean, for UChicago to be such a prestigious school with so many applicants, if you submit the subject tests, I'm sure they will factor in just as much as other schools..
