University of Cincinnati Class of 2022 Decision Thread

IMO there is no consistency DD got 4k at UC nothing from Miami or Indiana with the same 4.0 and 32 score. But i guess that why u fill out the application. Nice money maker.

Ha - right! Every year may be different as well.

There must be some method to the madness (stats, major, target enrollment for that major, strength of competing applicants, etc). But it’s definitely not just stats. Maybe.

Really interesting about UC- my daughter got a 33 ACT and has 4.0 gpa and got 3K, her friend got a 34 ACT and has a 4.0 and got 3.5K. We are in Ohio. This makes no sense. She applied at State schools outside Ohio and is getting tens of thousands of dollars worth of scholarships and grants and UC just gives out 3K and just says take out loans for everything else.

@DBY2017 Yes, it is interesting but really too bad. Lots of high stat kids like the school but it doesn’t seem like UC cares about getting them. My S is DA to a number of great business schools and getting good merit money. Even with UC’s merit money, the cost is more expensive than Miami and OSU. At least, future students will see this information and, hopefully, U of Cincinnati admissions, too.

@DBY2017 - What is your daughter’s Total Cost of Attendance (TCA) for UC with the Cincinnatus? Is that 3K/Semester? How does your TCA for UC compare to other schools your daughter is considering?

Not addressed to me but my OOS D got $2500 Cincinnatus along with the $6000 National Outreach for $8500/yr in merit. The estimate I have for tuition, fees, room and board is $40k/yr so about $31,500 would be our net annual direct costs. That is what we are using to compare against the same costs at other acceptances. All things are never equal. For instance the progression requirements to renew merit across her schools is different. But the net cost is another data point.

Not addressed to me either but Instate S got $2000 Cincinnatus/yr. Estimated financial summary online on our account shows total of $29700-$2000=$27,700/yr. For an instate public school that is considered high, IMO.

My instate daughter got $3000 for the year. To put that in comparison, she got $14000 a year from Kent State. Kind of shocked at the difference since we are both talking about state schools for us. To put it in more perspective University of Michigan offered her $38,000 and is flying her to the school next week for a scholarship celebration and Virginia Commonwealth offered her full tuition plus $8,000. Strange, I understand UC wants to offer aid to more students, but they have to be giving up some top students because of this policy. If I am going I in debt for $20,000a year it is going to be for a top school like Michigan not Cincinnati.

Any Turner’s scholarship notifications, yet? @KristinaO @CWAE182025

@BreakfastClub1 No, we have not heard anything. This is the last piece he is waiting on to finalize the decision.

please do post if you get any updates, i just emailed inquiring about when they would send out the notifications, still no answer. a little worried as i read they would be sent out by mid-march

regarding the turner scholarship

My daughter is also awaiting notification regarding the Turner scholarship and Choose Ohio First scholarship. Has anyone heard about the Choose Ohio First yet? She called for clarification on financial aid a couple weeks ago and asked it about it then. She was told decisions hadn’t been made yet.

@breakfastclub1 @CWAE182025 @squeaklover Nothing on Turner yet for us. In addition to the Cincinnatus, we did hear back about the Choose Ohio First Scholars Program for engineering… there are extra monies available there if your students are engineering majors… I am all in for UC… DD is still “deciding” between OSU, Purdue, and UC (insert eye roll here)… For me, it is a no brainer given the fabulous co-op program and scholarships… We shall see.

@KristinaO My S1 is a freshman CS major and it came down OSU and Purdue. He is at Purdue. S2 is a business major and definitely has some great DA in other business schools. I believe Turner would probably change his thoughts but Miami is still leading (I think). I really just want it all to be over ;).

@BreakfastClub1 I’m ready for this to be over too! We’ve got one final visit scheduled at each qualifying school so by the end of next week we SHOULD have a decision.

Son was offered $8k. Cinci took too long to process, accept, and inform us of anything. He was receiving notices to apply for scholarships before he was accepted and got a Christmas card from the engineering department before he was accepted. It was just a weird experience for us. In the meantime OSU, stepped in and swept him off his feet long before we even heard back from Cinci. I would have lost a ton of money in a bet on how this has played out. Cinci was his top pick for over a year. I am surprised and excited to say we are now Buckeyes. Best of luck to all.

In a way I’m glad that my D did not have any early favorites and is not in any hurry to be impressed by or hear from any school. She is evaluating her acceptances by parsing the information as it comes in and through campus tours. Once she receives it all she will do a final review and make her selection. So she isn’t offended by schools that take longer or won over just because a school is able to provide acceptance, honors or merit decisions sooner. On the other hand, I’m a nervous wreck…

@CollegeGuy2018 Congrats on your child choosing! I believe this is part of the process. Much different then when we went to school. I highly doubt any of our kids will look back and say they made a wrong decision.
