@EastCoaster13 thanks
@Weathergirl33 Thanks. Best wishes to your daughter. DD has never formally seen UD, so we’re not going to get terribly excited about this until we visit. She’s a bit concerned about UD’s rep as a party school, but she likes their reputation in ChemE.
Rutgers and UMBC are at the top of her list as of now. (It doesn’t hurt that both my wife and i attended RU and half of her wardrobe is scarlet.) She will also visit Manhattan College at the end of the month as well.
@mtown27 We have visited UD twice already and my daughter loves it! She has 6 other acceptances so far and UD is still at the top of her list. (RU being one of them!) She has a few friends also with very good stats who were also accepted to UD and have not heard about their merit yet so still hopeful that it’s coming! Fingers crossed and good luck with your upcoming visit!
@Weathergirl33 Given that UD is the most expensive school of the four to which she has been accepted, I guess I would be considered “lucky” if my daughter hates the place.
@Mtown27 I don’t think you will get that “lucky” lol but it depends what she is looking for. My daughter applied to some private more expensive schools and some in state less expensive schools. We have been told that typically the private schools offer more so they end up comparable in price to the state schools. It’s good to have options!
@Weathergirl33 I was in almost the EXACT same situation! I was accepted to UD as a medical diagnostics major as well. I have 1270 SAT, 4.61/4.0 GPA, loads of EC and leadership experience, all AP’s or honors, and an internship at NCI. I’m OOS and it is also my number one school. My merit scholarship info was updated in my portal about two weeks AFTER I got my yellow envelope in the mail. I was awarded 14k a year! Just make sure your daughter checks the portal often, it would be under “my finances award notice”. Good luck!
@mtown27 what school isn’t a party school?? You can find that reputation for any school out there. It is what your child makes of it. I have put one child thru UD and the other is a Junior at UD and my third was just accepted. Non of them considered “partiers” in the traditional sense. First 2 did Greek Life and still I don’t think they would say that UD is a huge party school. You want to be at a party school you will find the parties. If you are looking for other stuff you will find that there too. I believe it is the same at every school, the kids that want to find the parties will and for them it will be a party school. We have been exceptionally pleased with professors and the individual attention our kids have received at UD. I have to say I was surprised at this level of attention at a larger school. It has been a great place for our kids who were not necessarily looking for the same experience. A student who wants to study and be serious can get that even at the largest of “party” schools. It is up to your child to make that decision and they will seek out other like minded students especially with a population of 16,000+. As an FYI we are OOO and had no previous affiliation with UD.
@dogsrthebest Exactly, very well said. Penn State University is a #1 party school and that does nothing much but it is the student’s choice whether they want to party or not. I am not impressed with how these students are getting themselves drunk at all. There are many different activities which they can have fun with but in the end like you said, it is what choices the students make. Like one thing I hate doing is waking up and I wouldn’t wake up until someone shakes me up or something but then I would have to take the responsibility in college to be organized, to do things on schedule, and be healthy. The parties are bad in my opinion is because of underage drinking and nowadays, the cops are busting these parties over.
@dogsrthebest @EastCoaster13 Thanks. Note that I emphasized UD’s rep as a party school. It was certainly was not enough to keep my daughter from applying there. And as for whether the rep is justified or problematic? That’s what she’ll find out when we visit and talk to the folks there.
@isa_tex16 thank you so much for your response! Wow! You and my daughter really do have the EXACT stats!!! She is so anxious to know about merit awards! I don’t want to get her hopes up but I will show her your post and hopefully it will make her feel optimistic! She just got the “big envelope” so we will just keep on checking! Congrats on your merit scholarship!
@EastCoaster13 have you received any contact at all since the email telling you they received your application? My son is at almost 10 weeks now and nothing. Just the original email saying they received his application and the link to the portal.
My portal updated saying that i will receive a decision by March 1st because my major (criminal justice) is competitive. Quite disappointed because I’ve been waiting since the middle of November
@julietan0813 My D rec’d the same letter last week. I did an online chat with admissions this morning and they said regardless of the letter that it will still be 8-12 weeks. They were not exactly “chatty” but they did repeat the 8-12 weeks twice. My D’s profile was complete Nov 1, so 12 weeks would be around w/e Jan 27th. I am hopeful that they will stick to that. Looking back at these forums from last year it seemed pretty messy with the dates. Fingers crossed!
So should I expect something soon if I just checked my portal and my major disappeared…?
@cheerlaxlove that seems to be the trend for those that mentioned it. My D’s major disappeared and then 24-48 ours later there was a decision. Seems that occurred for others so it must mean something. Good Luck!!
@chp0304 No I haven’t I submitted my app on 10/29, all my materials were submitted 12/1 and I am still waiting. 6 weeks have passed but then something caught me attention in where on my online portal, my major disappeared and I was surprised so I refreshed but then it was still gone so I expected that a decision is pending pretty soon and hopefully I will hear by next week. I suggest that you can probably all as a concerned parent and they can help you out on the situation.
@dogrthebest OMG, the same thing happened to me today. One hour, my major on the portal and then the next couple hours, my major was off the portal! I hope this means I get a decision pretty soon! How many people mentioned this trend?
Just found the portal has the same situation. Material was finished on 12/02.
Online representative said the record was released but the portal has not been updated.
@Eclipse2017 What record was released? If we either got in or not?
