@Pianoman911 In my personal opinion I can just say maybe. Your GPA is good but that’s true that Psychology is competitive. Also, preference is given to in-state community college students first, if I’m not mistaken, so that is also t your disadvantage. I guess all you can do is apply and find out!
@BlackMetal Yeah, that’s what I figured. The out of state definitely doesn’t help me and I know UF has special programs that give FL CC students an advantage, which makes sense… I’ll let ya’ll know how I fare. I’d love to hear from you guys as well when decisions start coming in.
@Pianoman911 good luck!! Unfortunately the college of engineering is notorious for waiting until the last minute (late April/May) so I won’t be getting any news for a while 8-|
@BlackMetal I’m sorry to hear that, mate. What kind of engineering are you going for? My dad has his EE degree from Purdue. I don’t have that kind of mind, hence my choice of psychology
Hi Gator Nation ! I hope everybody are ok!
Let me introduce myself, I’m an international student (from France) with an Associate Degree in Business Administration (with honors and first rank of my class) with 14.5/20 of French GPA and 3.28 for US GPA with no classes below C.
Furthermore I worked 2 years in finance and banking (full time) before to pursue my studies (junior year) in finance this year (not really exciting about this program).
That is why I plan to go in US to finish a Bachelor degree in Sport Management with The University of Florida (amazing program and amazing school) to realize my dream to work with professionals or colleges teams.
As a consequence could you say if :
- The Sport management program provides great opportunities?
- Do a minor in Business Administration or Communication could be worth it?
- And of course my chances to get into?
Thanks in advance for your reading and answers,
Greetings to The Gator Nation !
Exactly one month after I submitted my app, and obsessively checking everyday since then, the application changed to referred to college: woohoo a little closer!
@FrenchChris hello!
According to this website, they rank UF as #5 in the country for Sports Management, so I would say yes, UF would definitely provide opportunities for you! http://www.sports-management-degrees.com/best-sports-management-degree-programs-2014/
A minor I’m not sure, perhaps email someone from the sports management department and ask if a lot of kids do that or if it’s helpful!
For your chances, in my opinion, I really don’t know. I think you have a shot though, especially with your history in business and finance and your apparent eagerness!!
Florida State College @ Jacksonville
GPA 3.33
Pre prof: current 4.0
Economics
AA
Goodluck everyone
@Frenchchris Not to be a killjoy, but the business school does not look at anything other than your GPA, so they will not take into consideration if you have prior history in the finance and banking field. I only know this because I contacted the head transfer advisor for the business school about an error on my application supplements and she informed me that it didn’t matter because they don’t look at it anyway.
Also:
Eastern Florida State
GPA: 4.0
Pre prof: current 4.0 (taking last 2 courses this semester)
Finance
AA at the end of the semester
@DRD941 yes I know the business requierements and prerequisites are definatly based on GPA but The Sport Management program isn’t in College of Business but in Human Sciences so I don’t know…
@BlackMetal Thank you for your answer, and yes I saw this ranking since three month and selected UNC (for MJ of course!!) but decided to give up because of their great GPA requierements (3.7) and english skills (100 min TOEFL), and UF (reputation in sport and Gator network principaly).
Moreover the director of admissions in Sport Management have told me that the average GPA transfer was 3.3-3.4…
Finally the French ranking system is deferent comprary to the US because it´s impossible for us to have 20/20 so 4.0 of GPA and as I have said the last time with my 3.28 of GPA I had the best GPA of my class at the graduation. A friend currently study at UMiami said me that few admissions officer take this in consideration, so I don’t know again…
Hello everyone:
I already got accepted to UF. I applied January 13 and found out I got accepted March 1st.
Florida International University
GPA: 3.68
Civil Engineering
I currently have 49 credits completed. 12 in progress and 7 other that I will be taking during summer. They just want me to complete those courses.
My boyfriend applied the same day, Jan 13, and as of today his status still says “Your application for admission to the University of Florida for the Fall 2015 term has been received and is being evaluated…”
They have everything they need. He has been calling but all they say is to wait.
I think he has pretty good chances of getting accepted but I dont know why the wait. They haven’t even referred the application to the college.
Miami Dade College (Honors College)
GPA: 3.93
Electrical Engineering
And a lot of extra curricular activities.
Any ideas? Is this normal? I know of other people that were also accepted within 2 months or so.
Perhaps each department makes their own seperate decisions within the College of Engineering, as in your application went to the Engineering School of Sustainable Infrastructure & Environment and your boyfriend’s went to the College of Electrical and Computer Engineering? With a 3.93 he’s going to get in, don’t worry about anything.
Yeah but the problem is that his application is still at the office of admissiom and they are “calculating his gpa”. They have not sent the application to the college of engineering and it has been over 2 months now
@wendyyy0207 Mine took about a month and a half to change to “sent to college”, and I applied in mid-december. Right now is definitely peak application submitting time, so you can expect even longer. He really can’t do anything else other than call, which he’s been doing. If he’s calling asking why its been so long, I’m sure they’ve checked to make sure they didn’t accidentally skip or miss his application
Yes that’s true. I probably just got lucky. At least I’m in already. It was harder for me since I’m coming from a state university and my gpa wasn’t the best. We will just have to wait and hope for the best. Thanks for responding
I’m so excited! I applied January 27th, and it changed to “sent to your college for a final decision” this afternoon!!
Nova Southeastern University
GPA: 3.39
Marine Sciences at CALS
90 credits (not sure how many will transfer…)
Hey everyone, applied as a junior from an OOS community college.
Stats:
Major: Finance
GPA: 3.9
Pre-Prof GPA: 4.0 (not entirely sure on this though)
Credits: 66 at the end of this semester
I don’t think my chances are all that high since the whole OOS thing + I’ve heard the business school is pretty competitive… But you never know! Good luck to everyone else.
@GabekingSG yeah, being OOS and applying to a highly competitive school definitely doesn’t help but a 3.9 is awesome! I wish you best!
@BlackMetal thanks! And quick question… Once they finally received all your transcripts, do you know how long it usually takes for them to change the application status from “your application has been received and is being evaluated” to “being sent to college for final decision”? I just saw that they got my last transcript today so now it’s the waiting game for me.
@Gabeking54 it’s been a while for me as well. I’ve been on “waiting for your gpa to be calculated and then sent over to the correct department” for almost 2 weeks. I’d say 4 weeks total for it to be 100% evaluated
