Journalism Major
I have, like many of you, received the “once your GPA has been calculated your application will be sent to the College of Journalism” message. I applied in mid December and this message appeared in the middle of January. I have heard horror stories of people applying around this time and not getting decisions until June which seems ridiculous. How would you secure housing if that were to happen??
So I decided to email a representative from my area to ask if she could give me a time frame for about how long I should expect to wait. Hopefully I’ll get a speedy reply. I’ll be sure to share. Best of luck to all of you!
Miami Dade College
3.5 current GPA
Chemistry major
I just submitted my application today, and also sent my transcript to UF. I have a question about foreign language. I am a international student. My primary language is Chinese and I have’n taken any of foreign language at community college. I graduated high school in China. How can I satisfied the requirement of foreign language? Hoping we all can be a part of gator nation!
@ashxxch
I think you should apply anyway. You never know.
@lyx1029
You should definitely see an advisor at Miami Dade. Do you have foreign language credit from China? If not, you might have to take two foreign language classes or a competency exam for another language.
Did anyone get accepted yet? Still waiting for mine ):
I applied on the 7th of January. By the 12th they had received all of my transcripts, and last night my application went from being evaluated, to already being sent to my college for a final decision. I don’t know if this is a good sign or not, but I’m hopeful. I currently have two pre-reqs in progress as well, so hopefully that will make a difference since my GPA will surely go up after I complete those.
Current institution: Seminole State College
Current GPA: 3.1
Major: Communication Sciences and Disorders
Side note: Is there anyone else out there worrying their GPA might be too low? That’s honestly what I’m most afraid of. I hope I’m wrong, UF has always been my first choice/dream school. My mom attended college there, and I’ve always had my sights set on it.
I applied on January 11 and less than a week later they had listed what was still needed. I’ve now turned everything in and just waiting for everything to be sent to my college. I’m currently taking courses online though, and the degree I’m applying for is also online. I’ve heard my chances of getting in to online school is slightly easier? Not sure if that’s true.
Currently attending Seminole State College.
Honors Society Member.
Applied to the College of Journalism; Telecommunication degree.
My GPA is 4.0 for all three semesters at SSC, but 3.5 cumulative thanks to an embarrassing first semester a few years ago. I was told that wouldn’t matter since I’m retaking the courses and making As.
Even with all the encouragement on this thread and my advisor insisting I’ll be fine, I am SO nervous.
I know what you mean. This whole site is full of nervous people, but we got to keep moving along.
If UF doesn’t want us then we’ll just have to take our talents somewhere else.
B-)
EDIT: Thread crossed 1K views. Half of those came from me but you’re talking to a celebrity now, gentlemen.
Did you guys apply to any other schools as back-ups in case you don’t get into UF? I just found out that I got accepted to USF and I’m kinda tempted lol
Currently at FSU
Applied as a management major
Current GPA: Cumulative GPA 3.5 (FSU GPA 3.57, dragged down a tad from 2 HS DE classes)
Pre-prof: 3.61
Finished my app in December, got referred to college for final decision recently. From what I’ve read on here, I don’t think I’ll get a decision for a couple months or so.
Not all too confident in my acceptance chance. Looking at transfer reqs for Heavener, I have the required pre-prof GPA (at least 3.5) for consideration, but I haven’t completed all the pre-req courses yet. I have one more left that I’m doing during the current semester. I noticed that the course I need to take/am taking (ACG2071) is in the 4th semester of both FSU/UF academic maps, so hopefully it won’t be that big a deal. Not getting my hopes up, though.
If I don’t get accepted, I’ll just stick at FSU and switch my major to management (Finance at the moment) and just do my last 2 years there.
Well, good luck to everybody!
A friend of mine recently got an email from UF stating that “due to the high level of transfer applications for the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, the cutoff GPA is 3.8”
The website still says 3.5 for competitiveness, and I’m not sure if the other Engineering departments have similar cutoff GPAs.
My application just got referred to my college for a final decision. I know it’s gonna be a while, but it’s nice to get moved on to the next step in the process.
My got referred to business school last week after around a month of submitting transcripts. They emailed for course equivalent form because I took out of sate prerequisites.

Pre-Prof GPA: 4.0

Applied 1/8/2016. They received my HS transcripts on the 19th. I’ve heard that they’ve been having trouble filling some of the CLAS majors lately. Still, I don’t think anyone will be hearing anything until after the Fall application deadline, which should be 4/1/2016.
My status just changed! Applications submitted 1/19, gpa evaluated 1/28, reffer to CLAS for final decision 2/1. One step closer. Good luck to all!!
I have been reading over this board and have yet to see someone in the exact situation as me, so here it goes. I graduated top 20% of my high school class and, although I suspect I would have had a good chance at admissions to UF, never applied and instead opted to go out of state to a top 50 University. Having too good a time, my grades began to severally struggle and I finished my freshman year with a pitiful 2.41 GPA.
I decided to take a gap-year and, after hearing that preference is given to students transferring with an AA, I decided to fully transfer to my local CC. (I was already taking 1 class in the fall just to work on better applying myself which, coincidentally, is the only reason I can apply for the fall semester)
I now have a 2.56 and am taking 5 classes this semester to get my AA. I am a political Science major, and the only reason I even bother applying now as opposed to next Spring when my GPA could potentially be above a 3.0 is because of my performance in Political Science pre-req courses. I got 5’s on the AP USH and APUSGov exams and got two A’s at a Georgetown summer class program during my Junior year of HS, which do contribute to my cumulative college GPA.
I know that much of the admissions process is centered around performance in major-specific courses as well as aggregate GPA. Also, I founded a political science club at my high school as well as started the school’s participation in model UN tournaments, which I was able to include in the personal statements.
Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this way too long post! I hope to hear what some of you think about my chances!
I applied on December 1st and I just found out that I got accepted yesterday!! (under the condition that I complete my in-progress prerequisite and graduate with my AA)
Current Institution: Santa Fe College
Current GPA: 2.9
Pre-Prof GPA: 3.5
College/Major: CLAS/Sociology
Miracles happen y’all… I really wasn’t expecting to get in lmao
I applied in December but because I had to send my high school transcripts they took longer to send it to my college for a final decision. The same day they processed my high school transcripts (yesterday) they sent it to my college for final decision.
Current Institution: St. Petersburg College
Current GPA: 3.93
Pre-Prof GPA: 3.75 (Got 1 B in Statistics over the summer)
Major: Political Science
Even if you have a low GPA DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED! My friend got in with a 2.6. It all depends on the major and if it’s limited access.
