Accepted! UF approved my application today. Conditions are that I finish my AA and complete a pre prof course with at least a C. It took UF a month to review my application. I posted my info previously on this thread.
AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! now if I can just get past this horrific biology gen ed course…
@2collegehopes however long it takes you to finish 60 credits, so typically two years. They won’t accept transfer students with under 60 credits, which is typically equivalent to your AA, although you can transfer without an AA. If you take the maximum courses your college allows you can finish in a slightly shorter time.

Does anyone know when we can start the Financial Aid and loan process? I am worried that I will be unable to get a loan by Spring term if I am accepted?
@Gthang91 I am not 100% sure about how aid is awarded to Spring students or how FAFSA works. However, I know that even if you haven’t been accepted or haven’t been given the go-ahead: Fill it out ASAP. The sooner they have it, the better you are off (same applies to dorm housing). You can select to send it to multiple colleges, so if you haven’t been accepted you can also send it to your back up too.
UF determines aid off of it. See here for more info: http://www.sfa.ufl.edu/applying/how-to-apply/

So just going ahead with the process now will be your best bet.
@Gthang91 I think I’m going to go with UF. Although they don’t have the exact program I want, they offer more research opportunities. Plus their life sciences are ranked so much higher than any other school in the state. I just got an apartment in Gainesville last weekend!
@IFeedCats That is awesome. Congrats. You are waiting till January to move in though right? I am looking at Royal Village and the Courtyards. Where is yours?
@Gthang91 I’m waiting until January to move in, although I may move in a few days earlier.
I avoided apartment complexes in general since I was seeking a roommate. I went to craigslist and found a room that was all-inclusive (water, electric, internet, furnished, laundry facilities, etc.) in another student’s condo for less than 500. It is a 15 minute bus ride away, but I prefer that since I won’t deal with traffic and rowdy students.
I really recommend going that route if you’re looking for a roommate. I put up an ad and also responded to some. Eventually I chose 7 places to view: 5 of them were really nice and had great people looking for roommates, one of the places was full of clutter and smelled bad, and the other was an extremely racist and creepy man (but his place was nice). If you’d like more information on the process, just let me know!
I talked to a bunch of people while I was there and I can give you some of the advice I was given?
A girl that worked for apartment complexes in their “roommate matching” department advises against choosing a place that offers the matching service. There are constantly issues and you never know who you’ll end up with. There is also a smaller pool of roommates to be matched with during January/Spring (best bet is in the fall), so on your “survey” you are less likely to find a person that will meet your criteria. (Quiet, tidy, no friends after X hour)
Another girl gave me a list of complexes to avoid, but I lost it. Three places that I know were on there were Phoenix Apartments, Majestic Oaks, and the Courtyards. Treehouse Village and Museum Walk were really nice complexes, but those were the only official complexes I went to.
@IFeedCats Ah I did not even think about checking craiglist for places. 500 is around my range too for an apartment. IT sounds like you got a great find and luckily avoided some weird roommates.
I was actually going to do the roommate matching but I never had high hopes for its accuracy in finding compatible roommates. The only requirement I really wanted was for the place to be walking distance to campus. Do you think there are any condos available within walking distance? Were the Treehouse Village and Museum Walk apartments close to campus?
Thanks for warning me about the Courtyards. I will definitely take you up on your offer for help!
Could you all give me what you think my changes are for fall 2016 with these stats… Have only my MAC2233 left to do for pre-prof class. and 6 more class total until my AA counting this fall semester. If I get A in the rest of my classes could be ~3.4 GPA
Current Institution: College of Central Florida
Current GPA: 3.1
Pre-Prof GPA: 3.95
College/Major: Finance , OR BSBA OR CLAS Economics. Don’t really want to do that but if I have to.
@Gthang91 Museum Walk is behind the Hilton which is right off of west campus. It’s a 2 minute walk to campus grounds, but your classes will most likely be on the other side of campus (north east campus) so it may be a longer walk since the campus is so large (around 20 minutes), but it is next to the “Park & Ride” lots where buses take you to the buildings (Your student ID is a free bus pass!)
Threehouse Villages is an 18 minute walk south east of campus. Maybe an additional 10 minute walk to your classes. I planned to ride my bike to campus from here, but the walk would be faster than off-campus busing. Considerably cheaper rent than Museum Walk. (350 vs 600 something)
As far as condos located in walking distance to campus, I’m not sure. I toured a house that was within walking distance (the cluttered one) and it had reasonable rent ($450 all inclusive). I looked after I chose my place and more people began advertising their homes that were close to campus. So it is worth a shot if you’d rather know what you’ll be getting up front. (Kind of why I don’t trust complexes: you get something completely different from their showroom)
As for advice on using Craigslist here is what I did:
[ul][]I posted an ad that said a little bit about me (no pets/smoking/drinking, quiet, student) and included things I wanted in a place (private room, furnished, washer/dryer, close to a bus stop) and in a roommate (quiet, clean, no smoking)
[]I did not list my price range. I just said that I wanted somewhere “affordable” - you can negotiate rent when you are moving into someone’s house/condo. I was able to negotiate $50 off of rent at the place I am in, and I later got another $50 off when I offered to be there an entire year instead of the semester. Another girl offered me a place at 600 and I could only afford 500, so she lowered it. On the flip side, if you say you can pay a max of 500/mo people will ask you to pay 500 when they have only been seeking 400.
[]Google the place beforehand. People try to make their place seem not as far from campus as it really is. “It’s a 15 minute bus ride” and google maps listed that the ride was 30. Google sometimes also provides information about the place: previous sale price, more pictures, about the neighborhood, crime reports.
[]Same goes for your potential roommate. If you have it, google their name or email beforehand. I avoided one dude that had a criminal past and gave off a bad vibe.
[]Think of other things that may be important to you about the location and place. One big thing for me was groceries. I also didn’t want to go to a laundromat and pay every time. Check your cell phone reception and the amount of wifi bars you get in the place/your bedroom.
[]Don’t take your wallet or any expensive jewelry/watches when you meet the people and see their place. One person posted that they were robbed when they toured a place and reminded people to be cautious. I toured 7 places and I didn’t have one incident like this, but it is still better to be cautious.
[li]Don’t go alone, always take someone with you.[/ul][/li]
I can’t think of anything else right now, but I hope that helps! I hope the safety stuff at the end doesn’t scare you off, I met some of the nicest people who offered me everything from tutoring to carpools even if I didn’t move in to their place.
Current college: Broward College
Major: pharmacy
GPA: 3.7
Hey you guys… This is my first time posting!
I will be receiving my AA after spring semester 2016 but i was wondering if anyone knew if UF had any issues with BC science credits. I was told by a prof that most schools don’t accept BC chemistry and Biology credits for pharmacy.
Please let me know if there’s any truth to this.
THANKS!
I’m applying for finance and haven’t heard back yet. If they said we should find out by the end of October, we should hear back by the end of this week. But we’ll see. @wixshy99
@Gthang91 I am really not sure what to do. I got accepted into FSU for finance but I’m not sure if I should choose General Studies at UF. I don’t know which would be more beneficial in terms of finding a job after school. I don’t know what else we needed to do to be accepted considering we have all A’s. When I talked to them, they said they pretty much only care about prereq grades. I am definitely disappointed.
