@yankees0918 I am sorry we both didn’t get in. We could not have done more. I am choosing UF because it is the better school overall. Employers will see that. Although General Studies is not Finance, it is still an Business Administration degree. I emailed and said to put me into the program.
Do you think that being a minority will play in when apply to the business programs? I am extremely curious to see that stats with those transferring in. @Gthang91 and @yankees0918 you both stood a great chance and getting in. Disappointed to see you both be denied. I also wonder about jobs perspective in UF BABA General Studies VS UCF or FSU Finance programs.
I am Hispanic, so I am a minority myself. I really don’t know if BABA at UF is better than Finance at FSU. It is a tough call. @untitled23
@untitled23 It is possible they factor that into the decision. I am white and a male. I do not think that is the reason I didn’t get in. Even if it was, its whatever. When I consider those options, I think employers see that UF is ranked like 42 nationally and FSU is 98. I think that is more important, but I am biased.
@yankees0918 When do you think you are going to decide? Crossing my fingers that you go to UF!
@Gthang91 I do believe employers pay attention to where you go to school. Especially when it comes to business degrees. I want to go into investment banking. Knowing its an uphill battle, UF I would have a better chance breaking iv VS FSU, though its not impossible. Both of you alls stats kill mine, which makes me worry being denied for this fall.
@untitled23 Just go the route of Finance at UF, but make sure you meet the BABA General Studies requirement. Have the mindset that Finance is potentially a long shot. Then go into BABA. You should also apply to other schools just for safety.
The good news for you is the admissions lady emailed me back basically saying we weren’t accepted because Spring has way less spots than Fall does. So they usually accept most people into BABA in the Spring and Finance in the Fall. @untitled23
@Gthang91 To be honest I think I’m going to go to FSU! It’s a great school and their finance program is solid. Although it’s a little further from home, Id rather major in finance then settle for Business Administration. Besides employers like more specialized degrees. A friend of mine is a CFO and she even said a lot of employers she knows could care less if you graduated from UF or FSU.
@yankees0918 and @Gthang91 sorry to hear about it for both of you! Seems pretty ridiculous that they’d deny you, but I guess if they had the few slots it would be extremely hard. D:
Along with what yankees said, I doubt most employers are going to care much about the school you go to (although some may have their preference, it should weigh a ton on their decision) but care more about what you ended up learning and how you can apply it. I can’t say much for business/finance, but from a science perspective: My boyfriend just finished the interview process at several companies and he graduated from a lower-ranked school. I know for comp sci they had 2~4 phone interviews where he would sit around answering these ridiculous questions to judge his thought process and personality (and obviously if he could get them right). He got two great offers at large companies and is extremely happy where he currently is.
If getting your BABA at UF (over a finance program elsewhere) would mean you would miss crucial courses in your education just to say you graduated from UF, it may not be worth it. If they offer a similar course load from FSU’s finance and UF’s BABA (plus a minor in something similar to finance? I’m not sure if they have any, I have only paid attention to their sciences), it may be worth it to go to UF if you think you’ll be happier there.
But definitely take my opinion with a grain of salt since I know more about science job applications than finance/business, but I assume there is at least a bit of similarity in the application process.
@Gthang91 @yankees0918 same situation. All of my friends said I should go to UCF for Finance major because BABA will waste time and money. I feel so bad now.
@hqyisb Did you apply to FSU for finance, and if so were you accepted? If you do go to FSU maybe we can room together since @Gthang91 is sticking with UF. Unless he changes his mind and we can all room together haha!
@yankees0918 hahahha, that’s good idea! But I only apply to UF and UCF sadly. God, I should apply to FSU, I think FSU is better than UCF
@yankees0918 I didn’t apply to FSU! That means you gotta come to Florida.
Hey everyone! I just found this and I was hoping if someone here has applied to the CALS or knows any information regarding the Nutritional Science major at UF. I’m currently at FSU and received my A.A. from Miami Dade College, and applied to UF in August. I got an update about three weeks ago that my application was sent to the CALS but have not heard back from them yet, is anyone in the same situation, or should I just keep calling the college until I hear some news?
they told me about this BABA program but i dont think it would be a good choice. i got accepted at FSU and FIU for finance, but i still cant choose which one would be better for me. anyone has an idea?
I cant make decision now, I think BABA is suck. Maybe I should go to UCF.
@wixshy99 Become a Nole!
How much are the statement of intent questions viewed for transfers into the business school?
How exactly did you get into the general studies degree, if you don’t mind me asking. Since you had specific majors that I’m assuming you applied for, did you also have to apply for general studies? I read (I think on this thread) that if you meet the minimum requirements, you’re automatically accepted, so did you guys not apply for it but got accepted anyway?
Also, does anyone know how competitive the marketing program is? I hear so much about people apply for other majors, I never hear much about marketing, so I’m hoping it’s not competitive.
