University of Illinois Chicago - Gay Friendly?

So UIC is a choice in my college search and one of my main requirements is that the university have a very gay-friendly atmosphere and a strong support group. I'm looking into nursing and I know that UIC has a very strong nursing program so that's why I'm really interested in it. Does UIC meet these two requirements? And are there any other universities you can think of near Saint Louis, MO that meet these requirements? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think it’s pretty gay-friendly. My mom went there for business school and apparently it’s very tolerant and open. Also it seems very diverse from their monthly(?) magazine. I don’t know anything about their nursing school however.

Have you looked into Saint Louis University? I went there for a year (I am transferring to a different university this fall, but only because they didn’t exactly have the program I wanted - not because I didn’t like it!) They have a nursing program and are very big on tolerance/acceptance.

*I meant to say nursing school, sorry about that.

It’s in Chicago so like any big city, it’s very tolerant! I’m from Chicago btw.

Hello maxaroooni!

Chicago itself is a very liberal city. There is a large gay-friendly community on the North side.
I had many of my classes in the Behavioral Sciences Building (BSB) and always saw rainbow streamers outside of the Gender & Sexuality Center. They always had a booth at fairs, too. Here is their website: [Gender and Sexuality Center UIC Home Page](http://www.uic.edu/depts/quic/gsc/)
Their contact information is on their website, so you should contact someone from the office to get a better idea of the gay culture at UIC and in Chicago in general.
