University of Maryland-college park vs. baltimore

I have heard both schools are good, but which is the best? Or rather, the best for me anyways. I want to be a research psychologist, so if either offered a good internship program for that it would be great.

I don't care much about size, if it's smaller that's cool, but if it's bigger, hey more choices. However safety is an issue with me, so is there one campus that's in a safer area than the other, or that has a safer campus in general? I also am not a huge party person, so it doesn't matter to me if a school has that or not. I'm more concerned with academics, a nice and safe atmosphere where I could go sit in some pretty tree filled place and study, so on and so forth. I also like suite styled dorms.

Nursing is my backup plan if research doesn't work out, so it would be good if they had a decent nursing program.

Mainly I just want a good school academically, with a developed psych program and other such social sciences, that I don't have to constantly worry about being shot or mugged or anything at (I won't be walking about at the wee hours of the morning or anything) and that doesn't need to have big parties, but still has opportunities to make friends at.

UMBC is basically surrounded by farms and low-density suburbs. The students I know there report that half of their dorm goes home on the weekends, but the half that stays finds plenty to do.

UMCP is smack in the middle of town, and has a METRO stop on campus so it is easy to get into DC. The people there seem pretty happy.

Go visit both campuses, ask lots of questions, and then see what you think. I’d advise applying to both, and then waiting to decide after you find out if you even are admitted.
