is there a chat for applicants/students in general? if there is, will someone add me? lol
What do you guys think the lowest SAT score someone can get to get into UM? My scores aren erve wrecking.
@JerseyParents Are you sure? Because I distinctly remember the common app info page for U Miami stating that essay was not required for the SAT or ACT. Other websites may be out of date.
In the past couple of years they sent out EA acceptances to “high achieving” applications around this time last year and my friend called today and they said they are sending out acceptances today, has anyone heard back??
@carieeb did the UM admissions office tell your friend that EA acceptances were being sent out today? Do you know if that is by email or mail, or are they posting them in canelink?
Did the order of anyone else’s tabs on canelink mobile change? The app status tab used to be second to bottom, but now it’s on top. I’m sure it doesn’t mean anything- just curious.
@20182022 The writing portion is used for English placement, but is not required for admission.
hey all… so I am being admitted into the spring 2019 term and it is not allowing me to pay my $500. Has anybody else had the same issue?? I am freaking out!!!
@sdteak is spot on.
from the University…We consider only the critical reading and math sections of the SAT for admission. Beginning Fall 2017, the ACT Plus Writing or the Redesigned SAT with optional Essay will be required for English Composition placement, but not for admission evaluation, for new undergraduate applicants.

Prepscholar says its Essays Required
Chegg says required
info regarding the writing portions of ACT and SAT was very confusing and contradictory. I spoke to someone in the admissions office and she said that if you did not take the writing portion, you could just take a placement test in the fall to determine which writing class to take. (My son did not take the ACT with writing so I hope she is correct.)
@goodgirl143 maybe in the 1100s. everyone, if you’re seeing this please help me out. I applied EDII to Miami and it’s quite a reach for me. All I’m asking you guys is is there any hope at all lol. I go to a somewhat competitive private school outside of Philadelphia where people have gotten into Miami with a 3.42/1250 SA, 3.67 and 24 ACT. many ppl from my school get waitlisted and never accepted if they have at least a 3.5 and ANY SAT score. here are my stats:
3.04 UW GPA (sophomore and junior year bc I transferred after freshman. freshman year gpa- 3.4, I was at an easier school)
26 ACT superscored
white, bilingual in English and Italian
president/ founder of pre-vet club junior and sr yr
president of astronomy club
3x best witness award in mock trial
one time national Spanish exam honorable mention certificate lol
sent very nice email about my diverse interests that I would like to bring to Miami to an admissions counselor
volunteer at local pet store every Friday
coxswain of crew team
I sing Italian and latin opera and play piano
took online class in animal husbandry
shadowed vet
veterinary and biomedical sciences camp junior year
My stats are weak so no hate please, I know they are. have you guys ever heard of a non-recruit getting into miami with stats similar to mine?
Hi can someone chance me? Journalism major. I applied EA and Im from a public school in NY, 1230 SAT score (650 in CR and 580 in math) 4.0/4.0 UW, 6 AP classes in total throughout all HS years. I am in the Top 2% of class rank. I’m editor-in-chief of my school’s paper, president of national honor society, vice president of my school’s ambassador program, and a bunch of other ec. I interned for Google this past summer and I have a good relationship with one of the faculty members of the UM Com department. I also have a very solid essay, my topic was very unique and inspirational and rated a 9 on a AP English scale. Also got a 20/24 on the SAT essay and I had that faculty member from UM “tag” my application. What are my stats?
I have been accepted to 13 colleges so far (Emerson, Temple, University of South Florida, University of Tampa, Marist, Howard and many others).
you’ll get in 99%!!
@dreamchase2k18 ignore the senseless above post. The 25th percentile of incoming freshman had about a 1270 so with a 1230 it’s going to hold you back for sure but with a good gpa and ecs you definitely have a shot
@strafed yea I know, but I’m only 40 points below the 25th percentile, and when I looked at the scatterplot for admitted students, UMiami accepts students as low as 1180. I don’t feel like my chances are that slim. Miami is looking for a diverse population of students, having all 1400s as freshmen, doesn’t give them that platform. Plus most of those students would consider Miami a backup to maybe NYU, Fordham or USC.
I feel like I have a shot, my math section is the only weak factor out of everything else. But for my major it shouldn’t be a huge factor
@goodgirl143 most likely a 1180 according to my research, but all other aspects of your app have to be on point lol
@dreamchaser2k18 But that is for the 25th percentile, so being below the 25th percentile puts you at around the 20th percentile which means you are in the bottom 20%. But yeah you definitely have a decent shot. Strong gpa and good ecs. I’m just saying not “99% in” shot.
@dreamchaser2k18 I wouldn’t go as far as to say 99% like @miamiplz2022 posted, but your SAT is not going to matter nearly as much to admissions as a 4.0uw GPA and top 2% rank. If you were going to pursue a technical type of degree then your SAT could hurt you but for journalism I think the hard work you have displayed gives you about an 80% or better chance.
You made my day with this post!! @EDHDAD Even though my SAT score puts me at a low percentile according to @strafed I still believe that the points you stated still gives me some kind of edge especially as a EA candidate. But even if I do get in I hope they’ll offer me some kind of scholarship due to my low sat. Other than that, thanks and I’ll keep u guys updated.
EA for business. 3.46 UW and 4.31 W. 8 APs mostly all honors otherwise. 32 ACT. Top 10% in a public school class of 500+ students. National AP Scholar + Distinction. 3 years of volleyball (1 year varsity), one year of football, one year of ultimate frisbee. Work junior year (15 hours a week).
Chances of getting in?
