University of Miami EA Chance

Hello, I'm here to find out my chances for getting accepted into UM through Early Action.

I plan on enrolling in the School of Communications if I am accepted into the college.

I speak English and Spanish fluently and have been taking French for four years.

GPA: 3.00 unweighted, 3.6 weighted

SATs: 1750 (first try, will retake)
ACT: 29 (first try, will retake)

Classes:
All IB, mostly A's and B's in every subject besides math
AP virtual school class (AP Micro economics)

ECs:
JV and Varsity member of my school's crew team (practice 3 hours a day for 6 days a week)
50 Hours of Community Service at an animal shelter
50 hours Community Service in environment clean-ups run by my county
Masterminds for one year
Marching Band for four years
I've played tenor saxophone for 7 years
Part time job at a catering business over the summer
Karate and Jiu Jitsu for three years, Brown belt in both

I know my GPA is low, I suffered from depression and an eating disorder Freshman/Sophomore year and found no interest in school, but over Junior year I joined IB and started getting better grades.

Thank you for reading this, and try and give me the most honest answer for my chances.

Much appreciated.

Are you Hispanic? I’m not too sure If that will help too much as UMiami has a large Hispanic community. Your GPA will really Hinder your chances but your ACT score is very well in range. I suggest you definitely retake it though. Your ECs aren’t very impressive unfortunately. All you can do is apply at the moment but go into this decision knowing that it is a reach. I think if you write a good essay explaining your improvement through High School and overcame depression then you would have a better chance. But all in all Good Luck!!

Chance me?

Your ACT definitely puts you over the edge as far as standardized testing is concerned, but your GPA may reduce your chances somewhat. Your ECs look good, though, so I think you a have a pretty good chance.

Chance me?!

Pretty good chance, if I had to say. If your standarized test scores increase I think its in the bag… Chance me back please!
