@coloraturadad , Funny!..I just text my D to ask, her response was, “sticker? NO!” Then a pause and an “lol, jk yes” Did you two conspire???
It could be that the university gives merit-based scholarships to first term freshman, but not the SMTD, or the other way around? Sorry if that freaked anyone out. It was made quite clear to me that they don’t give merit-based scholarships without students first proving their merit with one semester of good grades at U of M. But of course there’s always a chance I’m wrong. Actually, I’m really sure that’s what they said… So if someone is wrong, it’s the person who said it to me!!!
We’re hoping for all the help we can get… a merit scholarship would be wonderful.
Under music.umich.edu/prospective_students/admissions/ug/closed.htm , it says scholarship notifications are sent on or around April 1.
I’m pretty positive that this is a miscommunication or misunderstanding.
My D is dual degree (SMTD and CoE) at UMich and the statements on financial aid from them are confusing based on our experience. My D has had CoE merit scholarship since first semester freshman year and knows SMTD peers who had SMTD merit from first semester. So I have no idea what they meant regarding not awarding merit-based aid in first semester. (Maybe they meant no first semester university-administered academic merit scholarship to SMTD students on top of SMTD-administered merit, which is the need-informed merit scholarship influenced by auditions? How’s that for a guess???)
Well, this is definitely a case in which I’m quite happy to be wrong!!!
That actually makes more sense… That the university wouldn’t give merit scholarships until one semester… and it is supported by the SMTD site… It says they will look at scholarship possibilities after the university does their thing with financial aid grants and loans… In fact, we got our financial aid award today, and they won’t even LET us accept the loans yet… Maybe because the SMTD scholarships might still be applied??? I’m so grateful, I could scream… and I am screaming! GO BLUE!!! For SO many reasons!!! We are VERY close to a full free ride… omg… If even one little SMTD scholarship comes through, we are GOLDEN… or maybe I should say we’re MAIZE (and blue)!!! A dream come true after a couple horrible years… It turns out it pays off to have been laid off of my job!!! Well worth the sacrifice for my child’s future… <3 Michigan <3
We are waiting to hear back on Music Merit scholarships. Has anyone received any for undergraduate freshman Out of state? If so what has the range been this year?
@urenough I called and asked yesterday. They said it will come out this Wednesday or Thursday.
Has anyone heard about scholarships from the SMTD???
