University of Michigan 2023 waitlisted applicants

Similar sentinments are being expressed on other waitlist threads as well. Some students will withdraw or get rescinded, what people refer to as “summer melt.” So, “you” need the waitlist for enrollment management.

As @Knowsstuff mentions, this year seems odd to me too. Rejections were sent out earlier than typical, thus far, a couple admittances from the waitlist and the number or % of RD/Deferred EA admittances appeared down here on CC. It’ll be interesting to see the final numbers in June, assuming they’re released as is typical.

Any chance of acceptances occurring this week? Did any regional counselor mention possible acceptances in late May?

@sushiritto What is your opinion on the acceptance rate of this waitlist this year? Oddly high or low?

@adharma This is just a feeling that I get from watching the various UMich threads, but last year UMich enrolled 415 students from the waitlist for a 7% acceptance rate (6,000 accepted waitlist offers). My feeling is that the offers of admission from the waitlist will be down, thus the rate will be down, assuming UMich makes roughly the same amount of waitlist offers and acceptances (of those offers) as last year.

My apologies for my pesimissim. However, let’s hope I’m wrong.

Let’s hope for something today

@airway1, yes MSU enrollment for Fall 2018 was up and applications for Fall of 2019 were up because MSU joined the Common App for the Fall 2019 admissions cycle.

But, presumably because of the Nassar scandal, MSU’s May 2018 deposits were down. For that reason, they extended the deposit deadline to July 1. The extension generated more deposits than expected, resulting in a record enrollment in Fall 2018.

Deposits as of May 2019 were 5% lower than deposits as of May 2018, most likely also attributable to the Nassar scandal. My best guess is that, as a result, UM got a higher in-state yield this year. What we don’t know is whether UM accurately forecast the Nassar effect.

@UMich4567 last year by May 1st they had 8500 freshman depositing (son being one of them)… I’m surprised 5% down this year is an issue… but reading some posts this year they added a spring intake which they didn’t have last year. Managing the common app is an issue when it’s your first year … seems Penn state had the same issue huge jump in applications and managing yields becomes an issue

Also for umich the more selective the top 20 schools are the better the yield for Michigan… I have a few friends kids got into Michigan and it was their only public school. Two are heading there as for now and both out of state

Guys, i am not able to login to “New and Prospective student business” page from where one will be able to see the decision.

I was able to go to this page at 6 AM today but not now indicating that something definitely may be going on.

You folks also try.

I got the message

“This Login ID (Friend Account) has been locked. Contact your admitting office for assistance.”

Same message for me as well. But i was able to successfully login at 6:02 AM

Now i am getting “Site can’t be reached”

Will something come out today?

I also got “Site can’t be reached”

Yeah I’m getting “The site can’t be reached”. However, even “Student Buisness” and “Undergraduate orientation” also have the same thing so I don’t think something is coming out but rather their system might just be down.

They do maintenance on the weekends
If not
… Good luck. ?

Well the site is down during their hours of operation(6 am to 11 pm). I think its just a server issue.

There is a weird oracle redirect link when I try to sign in to the application status page. Is anyone else getting that?

It says that that’s just maintenance. The website shows the following on the sidebar: “Student Business and New & Prospective Student Business will be unavailable from 8 a.m., Saturday, June 1, to 7:30 a.m., Sunday, June 2, while the system is upgraded.”

Guys is it too late to send my “waitlist LOCI”? They say that final results come out in late June… I have done a few significant activities that I think will definitely strengthen my app…did you send one after the waitlist decision? I am very very happy with the school I will be going to right now, but if there’s anything I can do to improve my chances here it would be great…thanks for answering.

@omnom2169 Better late than never so go for it  No one knows the admissions process at this point so there’s likely no harm in doing so. And like you said, it would strengthen your app. Besides that, there is nothing any of us can do at this point to further strengthen our chances.
