@kayl11 All of us have been missing the button for a whole month
So, are there any predictions as to when this could be considering Umich has already broken their pattern of the last few years? lol this is crazy!!
UMich has broken their pattern. If they were to admit from their waitlist this week, then I’d consider that one week later than normal. BUT, @UMich4567 points out that there are at least two distinct explantions for their lateness:
- The number of deposits to MSU dropped by 5% (400 students) as of 5/1 and I think this fact may have an effect on UMich's admissions, and
- Apparently, UMich's admissions was used in research around the new CB's Adversity Index and maybe that has delayed admittances from the waitlist as they balance the Class of 2023.
@sushiritto 1) item- how does MSU deposit drop going to affect UM admissions?
Well, I’m not sure MSU’s 5% drop does impact UMich’s admissions. But for your consideration…
Maybe UMich has offered in-state students a better deal in terms of financial aid and therefore UMich achieved a higher yield, since in the past, the financial aid offerings haven’t been all that great. I read on some thread here on CC, from one in-state student (or parent), that their financial aid offer from UMich was generous. Of course, a sample of one.
Or maybe the Nasser scandal has shifted a few students who have offers from both schools (e.g., MSU Honors vs.UMich non-honors).
And on the Class of 2023 Deferred thread, I noted that the last 3 years of admissions, the OOS first-time freshman % has decreased:
Is UMich’s in-state financial aid offers getting better, which MAY be why MSU’s deposits have dropped 5%? And will this “trend” away from OOS students continue?
I’m purely speculating, so take it with a grain of salt.
Michigan state last year accepted more students to manage the class size after the scandal to make sure their bond ratings doesn’t get effected as Moody’s has them on watch. They had 8,400 depositing. This year is a different game as they joined the common app and had a jump of 11000 applicants. Managing yields is different as they need to adjust to the common app.
@sushiritto coming from a student that was accepted to both schools, my offer from UMich was substantially better than that of MSU.
Hey @YoopOfM ! I remember you. When one of the other long time posters asked if you were a "yooper,’ I actually googled what it meant.
You’re a sample of one, but if you include the other post that I saw several days ago, maybe UMich is offering better financial aid packages to in-staters this admissions season. I dunno.
I just sincerely hope the trend of atleast 7-11% of waitlisted students are admitted…
Like MSU doesn’t give much money/aid
my tuition at msu was gonna be 55k as an out of state student and they only gave me 5k in aid so all in all it wouldve been 50k a year

@Paigemonaem… Wrong thread… Find or start a chance thread
This is crazy. Any predictions as to when this will go out???
I agree @jdag11
Has anyone here on CC reported coming off the waitlist? I’m in CA and even Cal and UCLA (SLO, Davis, etc.) have went to their waitlists for at least a couple of “waves.” I think almost every school has had some waitlist activity, but not UMich AFAIK. Honestly, it shouldn’t take this long to figure things out unless UMich is over-enrolled.
I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but our family friend (double legacy, extremely well qualified) who was on the waitlist was offered a spot on 4/19. Lots and lots and lots of kids from our HS (including my son) waitlisted and none other than this one have heard anything.
@goblue246810 - I posted as well. One of my daughter’s good friends - double leg and very qualified - got offered a waitlist spot on 4/19 - wonder if it is the same person. Anyway, my daughter was deferred and then waitlisted - and headed to a UC. Not sure if there were many kids from our HS waitlisted but at least six have committed.
I wonder if it’s the same person too.
Both students were admitted off the waitlist on same day 4/19, which is typically a month earlier than I’ve seen here on CC, both double legacies and extremely well-qualified? Wow.
I really have a feeling that not many will come off. This year has been atypical of years past in many ways
I don’t think we will see the numbers as we have the last two years. Just my 2 cents.
If that is the case, why not send rejections? I am sure most of these kids committed to other schools and I am sure they will do just fine. Giving them hope and dragging this even further is absolutely insane.
