University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

Someone in our family has a longtime connection to the department and we live very close to Stanford so they knew it would be an easy commute for our son to get over there each day. Otherwise, very hard to get an internship…although, our daughter got one too when she was in high school, in social science, through her high school (Summit Prep). She’s now at Cal. So, the internships are out there but very scarce.

Oops… please disregard last post. That was from weeks ago and (I thought it was) private message responding to a particular individual. My question for today: have students who have been accepted received their letters in the mail? Our son has not. Was accepted to College of Engineering and we live in California. We have been having some problems with the mail, particular oversized. Got a letter from another university with a cover letter dated one month prior to delivery. Not sure whether Michigan is yet another mail problem, or if they are yet to send out notifications. Seems a bit slow? I remember my daughter getting her in-mail notifications almost same day as online (but she did not apply to Michigan…). Thank you.

My son was accepted to CoE from out of state (PA) and he just received his letter in the mail today.

We live in the Northeast and my son has not received a letter (College of Engineering). We’ve also been buried in snow so I can understand why things are backed up. Hopefully, they will hear soon.

Don’t worry. Even we are in town, my D2 just received the letter several days ago.

My son’s acceptance letter just arrived. We are in California so they must be trickling out. Thank you and good luck to all.

@Living61 there’s a GroupMe

I’m in Southern California and received my acceptance letter in the mail today.

I live in the UP of Michigan and no one from my school (5 were accepted) has gotten anything yet, so I guess they are “trickling.”

We also received a letter to the family regarding the admission yesterday.

@josephs40 Wow, I’m so interested in the UP. I live in NY. What’s it like up there? How many students in your graduating class?

Was this for EA and you finally received notification or was this rolling?

@242466, this was the mailed official notice for EA.

The series of notifications went down as follows:
Dec 20, 2017 at around 1:45 pm pst - I received portal notification of EA acceptance.
Dec 20, 2017 at around 11:00 pm pst - I received email notification of EA acceptance.
Jan 8, 2018 - received official letter of acceptance through USPS.

@brantly I love living here! I attend one of the largest schools in the UP, and there are about 125 in my class, but most of the classes below me are in the 150-160 range. There are certainly less academic opportunities, but the unique atmosphere and staff that truly know you make up for it.

@242466 I was EA, and I actually got my package today.

what was in the packages/letters?

A letter, an admission certificate, and some other information.

So no swag or anything?

@Blizzard1 if it’s any consolation my oldest child is now a junior at Ross. He was deferred EA from high school and a month later he was admitted in one of the rolling waves. It’s easy to get frustrated now because the wait is so long until March. But the deferrals, especially this year, are pretty much meaningless and your child should try to stay calm. The system is rigged against all applicants. Common App allows 20 applications! And guess what - every year applications climb for every top 50 school because students are doing whatever they can to game the system that is already rigged against them. You read that last year was the toughest year to get admitted to Michigan (and all of the top schools). Did the school get better??? No - it’s just that more people see the admission percentages and every year they apply to more (and more and more) schools. That’s all it is. You can’t expect Mich admissions to read 18K EA applications before christmas. Strong candidates with strong effort to show they will enroll have good chances. Deferrals were just the only thing admissions could do since they could not have possibly read all of the applications. My kid is there now and he was upset when he was an applicant too.

“The system is rigged against all applicants.“

Though schools try their best to keep students out, they still manage to break into the classrooms and dorms.

@coastal1234 Was your child admitted after submitting 7th sem grades or before that. My grades will not be available until the first week of Feb. Although I wasn’t asked to submit the grades, I would prefer them to look at it before reaching a final decision on my application.
