Do OOS students have no chance at financial aid if family income is more than $90,000? Because the university’s website makes it sound that way…
No. Financial aid is still very possible. It is just the need would not be fully met. Many OOS students with 90-150k family income still receive very significant financial aid. Try the NPC to find out yourself.
when do rd decisions start coming out?
@coastal1234 can I ask was your now junior Ross pre-admit after deferral? Or did they apply after freshman year. My oldest is also a junior, not in Ross. My HS senior son was admitted EA in December but is waiting to hear about Ross and convinced he is not going to get in.
I have a junior daughter in Ross. For the cohort of current juniors, the most common route of admission to Ross was to apply during freshman year. That’s what my D did because she didn’t even know she was interested in business when she applied to Michigan as a HS senior. Preadmission to Ross was a relative rarity. Now it’s flipped. Most students who will attend Ross will have been admitted with their initial application during HS. Very few spots will be available for students who apply during freshman year.
@brantly… yes. This is why my HS senior is so nervous while waiting to hear about Ross. My current UMIch junior is not a business major and keeps trying to give him alternative majors to consider if he does not get into Ross, but he is pretty dead set on it. Ugh. I really want them together!!
Trust me, it’s not big deal if he doesn’t get into Ross. If he has a goal, he can study anything he likes and still reach that goal. And he’ll be a better-educated person.
That’s what we keep telling him!!!
@brantly and @wrights1994 I would like to offer a different perspective --if a student wants to study undergraduate business–there are so many interesting business majors and minors to select from --acounting, Finance, logistics, marketing, Technology and operations, management, just some as an example, then why, if denied admission from Ross, would you have him or her settle for LS&A where none of the majors offered may be of much interest to your student? Why go to a school–even an elite school like Michigan, when the program you want is not available to you-- it is no longer a good academic fit in my opinion. There are so many good undergraduate business programs at other schools in the Big 10 (and less competitive than Ross) where your student can study the academic program he/she wants and thrive, and also have the great social spirited experience that most of the other Big10 Universities offer? A business major still needs to satisfy gen ed requirements and there is no evidence that LS&A undergrads are better educated than business undergrads.
He is in at Ohio State… So that is his back up. Also got into Indiana, but they are too expensive for us out of state. Also is in at Michigan State and Minnesota. But has decided he doesn’t want to go to those. We did the Ross tour and information session on Monday and we are doing the same at Fisher at Ohio State in February. I would just like him to be in Ann Arbor because it is close to home and his brother is there!
Forgive me if this was covered in prior posts, but when will UMich begin to release decisions on the applicants deferred in the EA round? Will they issue them on a rolling basis beginning soon or will they wait and release all with the RD group?
You can hear any time from early February to mid April. Seriously. It can be any time in that window. Having been an EA applicant does not mean you will hear earlier than RD applicants. You may or you may not.
Considering that you have to be admitted into Michigan before you are considered for Ross, it is highly probable that Early Action applicants will get their decisions first
Does anyone know when Michigan starts releasing whether or not you got into the specific college at Michigan i.e. I applied to the College of Pharmacy, when would I hear back whether or not I got the pharmacy guarantee they offer? I already got into LSA EA but my major right now is “LSA Undeclared”. Does anyone know?
@soccerkid1421 It is possible but not guaranteed. Nevertheless, I am sure the first batch (or first few batches) of Ross admission would be from EA admitted applicants.
@finnb Deferred from EA means it is now considered as RD and RD is rolling. Your application will be considered together with those apply RD early. They do not wait till the RD deadline to start the reviewing process, but the first round of announcement would be very likely after the RD deadline.
Do accepted students need to send midyear grades?
No, just final grades.
Does anyone know when financial aid is coming out?
They will start rolling financial aid information out in late January/early February for those who were admitted EA.
does anyone know if there is a fb page or groupme to find roomates?
