University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

I’ve been told that they send rejections and deferrals the 15th-21st, and acceptances after but idk for sure…

@bella2018 oh no that would be horrible never mind I don’t want my decision on friday

My sister who goes to Ohio State comes back on this Friday… she might be sending me bad luck :frowning:

As a parent of two kids from outofstate who both got into Michigan Early Action within past 3 years, I can say the following matters: high gpa (at least top 15% of your class) in rigorous curriculum (at least half courses honors and some APs), sat or act score that are within the upper half of the mid 50%range or preferably top 25% range. Write an excellent Common App Essay and also to the supplemental Why Michigan, and other essay question (something important to you in your community?) that shows good character and why you would be a good fit for Michigan in general and the school/course of study you are applying to, in particular. Demonstrated interest (either visit to Michigan or attend an admissons event at your school or in your local geographic area and/or some contact that shows interest with regional admissons representative who covers the territory where you live). Being a legacy and having some connection to Michigan definitely helps. And also being from an area (zip code) which is upper middle class where Michigan knows you will likely be able to be “full pay” and able to afford the hefty out of state tuition costs. Remember College is a big business and Michigan relies on out-of-state tuition to supplement its state funding. I know admissons is supposed to be “need-blind” but the Adcoms certainly know where each applicant is from.

What are my chances if my sat score is the 25th percentile of Michigan’s range?

@flhs23 unfortunately your chances are very slim to none, unless you have a hook (underrepresented minority, recruited athlete, son or daughter of big donor).

I have taken all honors and AP classes and have a 4.14 W GPA
Sat score: 1370 (1380 superscore)
Played Varsity Ice Hockey For 4 years (currently captain but didn’t include in application as season had not started)
In NHS
Ski Club
Future Business Leaders of America (Club)
Play guitar
Volunteered for boys scouts projects
Helped elderly people diagnosed with dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc and played memory games with them at the nursing home
Volunteered as a youth ice hockey coach for my town clinics (year round)
Worked as a lifeguard
Worked as an ice hockey official

There are more but how would my chances look with these kinds of stats?

P.S. I’m not talking about my chances of admission for early action but my chances for being deferred and then accepted later in the regular decision pool

@flhs23 Your gpa is very strong and so is your extracurriculars that could help your chances. But unless you are going to play Ice Hockey for Michigan I don’t see that helping too much. I think a lot will depend on the quality of your essays. The problem with getting admitted to Michigan is they have so many overqualified applicants–upwards of 55,000, that if your weak in any one area/data point that could result in a deferral and denial. Because Admissons at Michigan is just too competitive.

Thank you for the feedback! I have my fingers crossed!

Do you guys know how many deferred students U of M accepts?

Does anyone know if they release rejections and deferrals first then acceptances? Or is it all at the same time?

I figured I would chime in on the conversation about the 6 boxes…my son’s portal now shows the six boxes. When I click on the third box, “Campus Personal Information” all his information comes up…email address, home address, cell phone, etc…Can anyone else access this information? Also, there is a link to the Honors Application, but when I click on it, it says it is not currently available.

My older son applied last year EA and was accepted on 12/23. Several of friends were deferred or declined and they heard a day or two later. All via email then later they send the acceptance packet.

If you get deferred, have your guidance counselor call his/her contact at UMich to say that you will definitely attend if admitted (only if that’s 100% true, otherwise you are putting your GC in a very bad spot).

I highly doubt the boxes mean anything, as I see them and I applied as a nursing major. However, when you click on the Personal Information box, and then click the UM Parent/Family Authorization tab on the left, there’s a paragraph that you may think a student would receive. I doubt it means anything, but hopefully we will know by Friday!

I have EIGHT boxes

what are the last two?

Hi everyone! I’m getting a bit nervous considering that the decision date is so close, so could someone chance me?
