University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

First of all, no email about an acceptance yet. But more importantly, are there stats yet on the numbers who applied, got accepted, got deferred? I’m guessing <30,000 applied.

for everyone who has the second notification status: did it say “notified” earlier today but changed? ugh this is so stressful

So I just created and logged into my Wolverine Access account. Under my Fall 2018 application it says it is no longer active. But above it is an application for the summer of 2018. What does this mean?

How do I find out if I have the second notification?

i got my deferral at 3pm but i haven’t gotten an email and the letter on the portal says “An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.”

also with deferral, does that mean my application to ross bba is rescinded? am i just considered from CoE?

I got deferred from LSA, but my Ross application does not have a link. Does this mean my Ross application is just terminated? My screen says “Available links will vary based on application” but has no links for Ross!

If we have a status update on our portal, but received no email. What does that mean?

Son got deferred from LSA. Email is different than that posted by collegeclass22. Looks there are two forms of deferral letters. Son’s do not refer to “an initial individualized and comprehensive review” of application. Here is his letter:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2018.

Strong recent grades that are available before mid-February 2018 may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQs about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

My son received his email at 7:28pm - deferred.

@dannyphantom1 at least we have the same situation! Wishing the best for you

Looks to me like they didn’t really even review his application - maybe numbers were too low. IS, 1440 new SAT, 3.75 GPA with 3.9 in sophomore and junior years (freshman year hurt).

You can get into Ross even if you are deferred. Someone posted a separate thread about it.

@kaj826 is that unweighted GPA? If so it’s not that low, especially for LSA. I know someone with a similar GPA who got in.

I too never received an email, but my portal says deferred

Yes, unweighted.

Some people are saying that they defer high-stats applicants… that apparently wasn’t the case (at least here):

Accepted to College of Engineering OOS
Asian Male, no legacy, hooks, visits, or interview (I totally forgot to do the HAIL thing)
36 ACT, more than a dozen AP scores (all very high), lots of college credit
4.0/4.6 GPA
Essays were pretty standard, ECs were “meh”
Lots of major-related activities (I think that’s why I got in).

I’m still waiting for 25 other colleges to respond… and good luck to all you deferred candidates, I too was deferred from my top choice REA! (I could apply EA to both because Michigan is public, not private)
