@confused6789 same. Haven’t gotten an email yet.
Same with me. I’m deferred on portal but I never received the email confirming it
Same here, not likely but rly hope not receiving the deferral email means something more.

I got the deferral letter through email (and they requested for additional info and first semester senior grades).
I have a 4.3 W GPA 3.83 UW and a 34 ACT with pretty good ECs and alot of leadership activities. I believe my rec letters were amazing and my essays were also very genuine. One of my friends who have slightly lower stats than me got the first deferral through the portal so I don’t understand why I’m considered to be in the bottom 50% (I know it is just a theory but everyone seems to say the email one is for people who have lower stats)
@Ibelieve-2017 First of all, you aren’t in the “bottom 50%”. That’s nonsense. Michigan practices holistic admissions and one mistake candidates make is to assume that stats matter more than they do. Secondly, CC can be soul destroying if you believe all the inaccurate and often critical comments people make. Ignore them. You have an excellent chance of being admitted. Send a LOCI and your grades along with anything else they may have requested. But believe in yourself. You’ve got an excellent record.
@1314puppy There are not “good” and “bad” deferral letters. This comes up every year. Read old posts and you will see that this has been debunked.

Not really sure how I would say my essays or letter of recs were, but I think they were good
Wasn’t really expecting much considering I’m clearly below average, but we’ll see how it shakes out in RD I guess
Has anyone still not heard back yet? My portal hasn’t been updated and I haven’t gotten an email…
Does anyone know when the financial aid comes out? I really need some money as an out of state acceptee
Deferred OOS CoE with:
1550 SAT, 4.75 GPA (4.0 UW), 12 5’s on AP Exams, USNCO semi-finalist, USACO gold, 2x AIME qualifier.
Well darn, this sucks. Congrats to everyone who got in!
Accepted into the LSA.

Early College Program
I have absolutely no idea how I got in. I’m not legacy and I’m not a minority. I wish you all the best of luck!
Accepted to LSA!! Neuroscience major
GPA: 3.74
ACT: 31
Teacher Recommendations: I think they were pretty great. I got my English teacher for a college class I was in and my physics teacher who is also head of the softball program (I was a captain in 10th grade) and was my geometry teacher and leads student council, which I am also part of as treasurer for my class
ECs: focused a lot on a TON of volunteer work that I’ve done and currently do, but I also mentioned how I founded my school’s first Model UN club this year. Lots of school activites and I hold a leadership position in every one of them (student council, NHS, quizbowl, etc.)
Essays: My common app talked about ageism and how age doesn’t define anyone (related this to my traveling experiences over the years and my accomplishments). My Why Michigan essay talked about Michigan’s diversity and how they could combine my love of travel with my volunteer work. Community essay talked about being a fan of One Direction and my presence in that community, and my EC one talked about how I linked my major with the volunteering I do.
Hooks: first generation, rural school, asian-american female going into STEM
Strengths: I think my essays are what really put me over the top because my GPA and ACT are below the average. Super proud of my community essay because I thought that it wouldn’t be taken seriously, but it really helped me stand out!
Weaknesses: GPA
I think what really helped me out was also being in a very rural school that doesn’t really have kids that apply to Michigan. This year was apparently our highest and it was 5 people. I’m so happy I got in because I was under the impression that GPA and test scores were the most important but that seems to not be the case! I’m so incredibly grateful.
I haven’t heard a decision yet, but my application says summer 2018 and the fall 2018 is unavailable. Anyone know why?
Same problem here
accepted LSA, 4.45W GPA, 3.75UW, SAT 1440
OOS
I go to an OOS where over 5 people have gotten in already
Accepted LSA. OOS. 4.67 GPA, 1520 (800/720) SAT. 800 on two subject tests. 5s on 6 AP exams.
My daughter got accepted into STAMPS fine arts OOS (Ohio) 4.57/4.0 GPA 33 ACT 5 AP classes. Surprised at the amount of deferrals by those with really good academics. I know STAMPS isn’t as competitive as some of the other colleges at UM.
Can someone explain to me why tf UMICH sent me an email saying that I “Do not have enough” info to make a decision on my application for early action? LIKE WTF!!! If I’m not good enough just Defer/Deny me!!! Don’t say I lack information on the “Most up to date grades of this semester”. MY SEMESTER GRADES THIS YEAR HAVENT EVEN BEEN UPDATED!! Ughhh this is bs… like wtf I would be fine if I got rejected or deferred. But nooooooo they decided to just put in the regular decision because they apparently "Can’t make a dec
