University of Michigan Ann Arbor Class of 2022 Early Action

I got this as my decision:

Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review. An official communication will be sent to your email address on file.

While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2018.

Strong recent grades that are available before mid-February 2018 may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQs about the admission process and what to do next.

We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.

Does this mean I am required to submit grades?

Can someone explain to me why tf UMICH sent me an email saying that I “Do not have enough” info to make a decision on my application for early action? LIKE WTF!!! If I’m not good enough just Defer/Deny me!!! Don’t say I lack information on the “Most up to date grades of this semester”. MY SEMESTER GRADES THIS YEAR HAVENT EVEN BEEN UPDATED!! Ughhh this is bs… like wtf I would be fine if I got rejected or deferred. But nooooooo they decided to just put in the regular decision because they apparently "Can’t make a dec

Wow, I didn’t know so many other people got deferred too! Is this something UMich usually does for EA? Congrats to those who were accepted, and stay strong to all those deferred! I’m right there with ya

Refer to post #1 in this thread.
This thread picks up where the EA torch of 2021 was passed to the class of 2022.

Some people already got theirs

I have heard there were 40,000 EA applications, almost as many as in a normal Regular decision. I will guess that there was not enough time to go over every application. Really disheartening for those who applied EA thinking that this would give them the advantage of finding out early to learn that they will have to wait months more.

Curious: For the students accepted EA, when did you actually submit your application? Any chance that those who submitted very early on within the submission period rather than right up to the deadline received a more favorable result in this round of decisions?

There is no official number for the EA application yet. If it is really near 40000 applied EA, then near 90% of them would be deferred.

I applied on 10/27 and got accepted EA

The 40K number is from Michigan Admissions twitter page. There were approximately 60K total apps last year.

@billcsho The UM admissions blog said that UM received “almost 40,000” EA apps this year.

@098123Student My D was accepted EA and submitted her app 10/31 or 11/1.

it seems that most accepted were for the arts and sciences. I have not seen hardly anyone accepted for engineering.

guys there’s a thread for the deferred…http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/2042298-university-of-michigan-deferred-applicants-class-of-2022.html#latest

My D got deferral from LSA with “bad” email. She is an in state Asia girl with ACT 35, SAT 1540, UW GPA 3.78/W GPA 4.11, 10 AP 4 or 5, another 2 AP got 3. Class rank 1/505. She is taking 2 AP and two Dual Enroll classes in her senior year. So far first period she got all “A”, expects all “A”, at least “A-” for the semester. What chance will she get in?

@co2018mich are you OOS or in state?

in state

@sushiritto Thanks for point at the direction. So the EA application went up almost 25-30% this year. So near 90% of EA applicants would deferred if they keep the EA/RD admission ratio unchanged. I wonder what would be the final number of application by Feb 1. If it is proportional, there would be over 70k this year.

i

UM EA received about 40k applicants and only accepted 6k. That is an acceptance rate of only 15%, so many deferred applicants will get in in the next round
