^^ one sentence reiterating interest in umich. the next one or two informing them on updates in your son’s application. the last thanking them for their time and noting that it is your first choice (if applicable). keep it very short and to the point
Question… i sent a LOCI to UM after being deferred physically through the mail. A friend I have who goes there told me this method sounded better. I have received no indication that the university received this letter, however. Should I send it again via email to my regional admissions officer?
More than likely, the release will begin at 5:00 PM EST.
@Knowsstuff I think this year is going to be different. My school was told that UMich didn’t have time to look at all the EA apps that came in so people just got deferrals. I think Feb 1 is going to be mostly or maybe even 99.9% EA applicants.
@cdr2001. This is no different then it was last year and the year prior etc. Friday should be an exciting day for some.
As far as I’m concerned UMich not being able to review all EA applications is an old wives tale that gets repeated every admissions cycle. UMich accepted 8,000 EA apps from 40,000 apps last admissions cycle. 8,000 is roughly half the freshman class. The other half is RD.
Everyone, good luck this Friday!
To everyone who was deferred: did you get a response from your LOCI? I did not get a response - also when are LSA decisions coming out for those who were deferred?
Also, I’ve heard Feb 1 may be the date, but in my decision letter it said to send mid year grades, so how it that going to work they aren’t even sent when I get the decision?
@MichiganGoBlue23 You will either be accepted on 2/1 (if that is the first RD release) w/o mid year grades or your admissions decision will be delayed to a future date/“wave.”
Do we think the first wave of decisions will come out at 3pm or 5pm EST? When EA came out in December it was 3pm.
^ On 2/1
@MichiganGoBlue23 - consensus on these boards seems to be that given the large volume of email, docs, etc. that the Admissons Officers receive, not getting a response is not necessarily bad but more likely an issue of bandwidth.
Additionally - for those who did receive responses to their LOCI, the majority of the responses appear to be mostly templates with some occasional modification based on specific questions that may have been asked by applicants to the AO.
Good Luck to All!
thanks so much for the insight. so some ea applicants who were deferred will hear back, but others will not be heard back if mid year grades weren’t sent yet? they wouldn’t decline a deferred applicant who didn’t get a chance to send mid year grades right?
Most deferral letters had some type of reference to deferred EA applicants receiving a decision by mid-April and/or that submitting first-half senior year grades may help.
I don’t know if they would decline an applicant before mid-year grades are sent in, but would expect that they would not outright deny someone who received that type of template deferral letter.
re: some deferred applicants getting a decision before mid-year grades are submitted: I suppose it’s possible (?).
By now - they will have had a high-level first-pass of the RD applications that came in between November 1st (EA deadline) and mid-January so I suppose it’s possible that they may feel comfortable admitting a limited # of EA applicants that were on the bubble when the first wave of decisions went out in December.
I suppose we’ll all learn more by the end of the week!
^ Heck yes- there might well be as many deferred as RD at this point so that suggests the possbility of quite a few deferreds being admitted in a few days.
Does anyone know if there will be rejections with this first wave or just acceptances?
From previous posters, it appears that Feb. and March are mostly acceptances with the bad news happening closer to April.
The next round and going forward will be acceptances, rejections and wait list. You just don’t hear about the rejections but they happen.
@Knowsstuff - in that case, timing of application submission could make a difference as to when you get your decision. Wondering if they waitlist any new RD’s in Feb or are they all deferreds.
Rd’s will be accepted, rejected and wait listed. Same as everyone else but I think you tend to hear more about wait listed in late March /April…
