University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

@ImASoccerPlayer I was wondering which response is the “bad response”

@Icnova3 - no expert, moi, but your to-the-point e-mail was likely greatly appreciated. Highly doubt sending a long letter or tome would help anyone’s chances, esp. if they asked you all just to send mid-year grades and nothing else. In fact, the admissions page is pretty clear that the sending of extra documents might well hold up your admission. So there’s probably little need to worry about some unwritten set of LOCI rules.

Once again there is no good /bad deferral letters. Look at all the people last wave that got the one that said to send in midterm grades and got accepted without them.

Sending in a Loci should of been done weeks ago. If you sent one then your done. Sending in long letters now looks desperate to me. The letters stated not sending in additional information like referral letters from teachers etc. Neither letter says anything about expressing your interest in attending the school. A lot of schools expect a Loci to be sent like Berkeley and Georgia Tech etc . Yes, it’s confusing.

In my reply to my LOCI, it said “Before we can make a final decision on your application we need to further evaluate the strength of the regular decision applicants, as well as the yield rate of our admitted students to determine if we have space for you in the freshman class” Does that mean that I am basically waitlisted or is it the same email everyone else got?

@sarahmia - what Michigan told you is precisely what will happen to every deferred application at every institution. It does NOT mean you are waitlisted, as many who got that same message were accepted over this past weekend, along with others who didn’t submit an LOCI at all.

@Knowsstuff - there’s no harm in a brief e-mail and - especially - communication from the guidance counselor that this is your #1 and you will attend if accepted. Anything like that can help, assuming you mean it and can back it up. Not sure about Cal Berkeley but GeorgiaTech actually asks you to submit a Deferred Supplement form which updates them on your activities and other information to assist them in assessing the application. There - the rules are clear. They specifically provide you the means to demonstrate continued interest. Really - I can’t know this either way, but it seems odd that Michigan would place those clever enough to read CC on a higher list than applicants who are following the guidelines that the school actually sends out.

If wait listed it will say wait listed. You are either accepted, denied or wait listed at this point. Totally familiar with GT. My son was wait listed there. Yes they make it very clear on what to do.

Demostrated interest is the key. It should of come out in the essay. Sure a short letter but just not sure how much it helps at this point if one was already sent.

Talking to their high school GC might be advised.

@JBStillFlying we both applied to LSA but different programs/majors. I’m not sure about our unweighted GPA’s but my weighted GPA is 4.32 and hers is 4.41. We’ve taken basically the same classes throughout high school, both 12 AP’s.

@MichiganGoBlue23 I sent mine thru mail to Sanders. Didn’t receive a response and was worried so I emailed my regional counselor. She said they had mine on file and don’t typically send confirmation. However, I have seen people that have gotten an email confirmation (but this may just be for those who sent to LOCI thru email).

@sarahmia are you from VA?

I had sent a LOCI through mail to the Undergraduate Admissions office way back on December 22, but hadn’t gotten a response. 4 days ago, I e-mailed the admissions counselor to remind them that I had sent one then, and asked if they had received it and added it to my application. She said that they had received it and “will continue to advocate for my admission” but “I should keep my options open.”

I am not looking into it much, but this is my dream so I am praying everyday :). Good luck everyone.

@omnom2169 I have the same situation and date sent! Good luck and I wish the best for all!

Just keep in mind. They get thousands of mail /email. The wording they are giving you is a template. It’s just honest wording. Enjoy your senior year!

@oliverwalke - Interesting. You both certainly sound nearly identical, although it appears that a lot of perfect and almost-perfect GPA’s were admitted last weekend so the closer to perfect grades, the better. Hopefully your turn next time. Good luck to you!

My response to LOCI was not template.

Thanks @JBStillFlying

@joelen09 could you please post the reply you got? Thanks

airway1, that is not correct. I attend an U.S.-administered American school overseas, so Michigan considers me and my application as, “International.” My sibling (a Michigan alum now) was considered the same.

I just sent Umich my mid-year grades. When the date of my transcript changes in wolverine access does that mean my admissions counselor reviewed my transcript?

Any updates on when the next wave of decisions are? This Friday or next Friday? The wait is agonizing.

I heard it was this Friday. Also, is there a reason why they are sent in waves? How come they aren’t all released on one day?
