University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

We pretty much know the next release is a big release. Then sprinkling of acceptances then rejections ramp up after that.

Just checked my financial aid offer and is a little disappointed (I won’t mention the specific amount). Just curious is this only the need-based aids or is it confirmed that I’m not gonna get any scholarships?

what is a LOCI letter?

That’s March 1st, right?

@sushiritto. Thanks for all the hard work collecting the stats

So DD is OOS. I did a financial calculation and looks like we will be paying about 65K/year. Pretty much the same as the UCs if she got accepted there. I know merit scholarship is out of the question for the UCs. Is Michigan the same? Do they typically give out scholarship for OOS? We have 529 saved up but not 270K total! even 5 to 10K a year would make things a bit easier.

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

@laxlover11 an LOCI is a letter of continued interest that people send to their regional counselor after being deferred. There have been many debates as whether of not people should send them, I did… I don’t think it could hurt in anyway

@Nhatrang very rare for OOS merit but financial aid yes.

I think the 2/1 release was definitely a small group. I think that there will be a lot more acceptances and now moving down “food chain” accepting more 29-32 ACT range now that all the “top dogs” (33-36) were generally already accepted. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

@Knowsstuff we won’t be eligible for financial aid. Oh well.

@joelen09… I think it’s a good theory but still think the stats will be higher then what your stating. It did seem like a small group but again CC is just a microcosm of the real world.

@Nhatrang still talk to financial aid. I hear so often that someone won’t qualify but then they end up getting something. Michigan runs more like a private school then public. Call and see if it makes sense.

I’m trying to report facts, not speculation.

So, I went back to last year’s deferred thread for the Class of 2022, which was my kid’s class. I remember these RD/EA releases aren’t that large. They’re “biggish” as I said.

Last year, the Friday 3/2/18 release, where students and parents were still reporting thru Monday 3/6, had 35 (thirty-five) acceptances. Yes, less than the 44 that I counted for the 2/1/19 release for the Class of 2023. :-??

The next RD/EA release or wave was Friday 3/30 and this release is where you begin seeing waitlisted and rejected posts. There are many more acceptances to come, but I don’t think folks should expect some massive release here on CC. That would be misleading.

Have any accepted students received their letter in the mail yet?

what are the chances of acceptances today?

So if I don’t hear anything today, when will the next “big wave” of acceptances be? Or if I don’t hear is there really no hope for an acceptance? Should I just check my portal all the time?

Mad at myself for just now sending in my LOCI this week (held back because was worried they only wanted grades and nothing else), but I guess there’s nothing I can do at this point!

@jelbel123
From what I’ve been reading, it seems like there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the release dates. I did read a suggestion from a reliable poster to check every Friday after 5pm. My decision was posted after 12am so maybe check then, as well? I’ve read as well that there could be the next “big” wave on 3/1.

My suggestion comes from my son from like 2 years ago. Don’t keep checking your portal. Live your life and enjoy your senior year. There’s nothing you can do about it anyway. When you start to hear people talking about this or that school since some got notifications then sure check. Your going to get an email either way also. If your on here you will start to see an uptick of responses. If people are getting notified then sure check your portal. Most important thing… Enjoy your senior year. It goes by quickly.

Hard to imagine Merit awards at UM given they can basically fill the class with students with almost perfect academic credentials without giving Merit awards. I mean a 4.6 weighted gets merit and a 4.5 does not?

Looks like MU has a few different merit scholarships for both In-State and OOS. I am sure they are extremely competitive. I am a bit surprise with the amount (15-30K). https://lsa.umich.edu/scholarships/prospective-students/merit-scholarships.html

I hope something comes out today!
