University of Michigan Class of 2023 - Deferred Applicants

Looks like we will be waiting for at least another week. On the positive side, there still is a chance of admission, albeit dwindling with each passing wave, but still swimming.

At least for historical purposes, and my own edification, it should be noted that two TRANSFER students posted acceptances THIS MORNING on the “UMich Transfer” thread. I don’t pay a whole lot of attention to transfer student thread, but I find it interesting to note that they appear to be handled separately and on a different schedule.

@brantly @Nhatrang I agree with Brantly. In my experience, it is VERY common for GC to call admissions officers to discuss students, especially those with unusual backgrounds or experiences or who have a definite interest in a particular college. And colleges routinely contact GCs. At my D’s school, the GC mentioned speaking to admissions officers at a couple of the colleges to which she had applied. If our GC wasn’t so involved I would have been very disappointed.

As for Ivy League colleges, I can only speak of two, but at both admissions officers instructed students to have their GCs contact them if this would add to their understanding of the candidate. They certainly didn’t object as it is their job to solicit and evaluate information and GC’s are a key part of this process.

Is there a UMich wave on March 1st, this Friday for deferred LSA?

does anyone know when the first ‘big’ wave of Kines usually comes out? or should I expect to hear from them in mid-april at the last minute?

@exlibris97 I’m sorry but what do you mean by a GC?

@Acortez122 That’s what the group here thinks. Midnight EST.

@nygfootball21 There weren’t any Kinesiology acceptances in the 2/1 RD wave, which seems odd. Let’s hope for some in the next wave. There are so few spots in the Kineoilogy Class (166 for Class of 2022), but I would expect to see some RD acceptances at some point here.

@Zeylanite GC = Guidance Counselor.

@sushiritto 166 spots enrolled…? wouldn’t you guess that maybe 350-400 offered if they offer 15000 or so and get 7000 enrolled ( I know my math is a little off but we get the point:)))

12AM EST on Friday Morning?

Friday night at Midnight EST. Usually students start posting 12:01 AM early Saturday morning. Sorry.

Yep, I was just asked this. So actually 3/2 one minute after midnight… Lol…

The next wave will have relatively lower stats?? So should a high stats deferred student still be holding out hope?

Curious I see these projections of stats from rounds etc. Where are these numbers coming from. I noticed just after the EA initial round the numbers at CC appeared to be lower and many exclaimed it was to protect Yield. Suggesting that any backup ED Ivies etc would pull their applications. So IMO the stats should be slightly higher going forward. So if anything there are plausible arguments from every angle. Odds are they are always looking to protect their Yield and numbers but in the end the Hilistic approach will rule and Im sure everyone across the board still has a deserving chance at getting in. Even the High Stats kids deferred in the earlier rounds.

Enjoy and good luck with the next Wave…

Back somewhere in these pages, I posted stat comparisons of the Class of 2022 2/2 wave (35 acceptances) versus the Class of 2023 2/1 wave (44 acceptances). The stats of this year’s 2/1 wave were higher than last year’s. I didn’t look into original EA rounds of both years. I could, but UM will eventually post the complete stats in several months.

All RD applicants should have hope no matter their stats.

I’m hoping there is a wave 3/1 and I get some good news because i honestly can’t imagine waiting until 4/1!! Good luck to everyone!

Does anyone know if there is something like this for UM?

I am sure there is but I have never seen anything like that for public consumption.

If your school has Naviance, that is a great source of information for applicants, admissions and enrollment to colleges based on the students applying from your school. It doesn’t break it down by demographic. It does plot you on a scattergram using your gpa and act/sat score against other applicants over the past three years. It still isn’t a guarantee but since every high school is different and can’t be compared apples to apples, this at least shows how other students from your school fared. Essays, EC, etc can’t be plotted, but at least you can get a general idea based on those two factors. It also does not have the ability to break it down by a specific college within a university, like how Michigan does their admissions. Again, just one tool out there.

Has anyone who applied School of Nursing heard anything? I have been keeping up with this thread, but havent seen anything

Rolling Decisions…

I found this old article of interest and it does clearly suggest that any given U of M individual colleges can decide to send out any number of decisions on any given day. Not to suggest there are not waves but that there are clearly many potential non waves for varied reasons.

“University of Michigan has been sending letters of acceptance to the class of 2018 this winter, and students are hitting social media to share their glee.

U-M will be sending out admissions decisions until mid-April, and students are asked to make a decision by May. Decisions don’t go out all at once, but instead are based on the the schedule and volume of U-M’s individual colleges.”

“Our 19 Schools and Colleges may be sending out decisions, as auditions and portfolio evaluations are completed, especially in our talent-based programs,” Erica Sanders, managing director of U-M’s office of undergraduate admissions, said in an email. “Additionally, transfer decisions are being released at this point in the cycle.”

She added: “The idea that ‘all’ decisions are released at one time is not accurate. Many decisions are sent out as the decisions are made, rather than in a batch on one day.”

So clearly there is always hope on any given day…

Good Luck to All awaiting decisions through Mid-April
