@justinpsmith I would be shocked if you weren’t accepted later.
@SaltyBoi Username checks out ?. Applied at 11:58 AM Nov 1st and Got in.
@SaltyBoi My son submitted the evening of 10/31 and was accepted.
am I the only one on here with a sub 3.5 that got deferred? I’m lowkey shocked I didn’t get denied, did anybody get denied?
People are saying that no one gets denied in EA, which I think is odd, since the UM website says you can be denied in EA. On the other hand, other people with a sub 3.5 have been admitted, so hang in there!
Has anyone made a Facebook group or forum on this website for accepted students who plan to enroll?
How important is legacy?? My daughter was deferred and I just found out that she never mentioned having a double legacy (father and sister) because she said she didn’t see any place to add it on the application. She used the common app with the Mich supplement. Did anyone else have this problem? Is this something worth contacting her counselor about to add?
@MichiganMom2019 I would think she could/should mention it in her letter of continued interest.
@SaltyBoi my son’s EA application to LSA went in at 11:04 pm on November 1st (less than 1 hour before the deadline). He was accepted:
1530 SAT
GPA: 5.31 out of 5.0 weighted
5 AP classes (4s and 5s)
Out of state
Do you know if adding legacy info was just not an option for the Commin App route or did she definitely miss something?
To all deferred - send your LOCI asap. Many students will confirm their EDs within a month and have to withdraw all their other applications. Another wave will decide to go to another school in May. Michigan accepts applicants from the deferred pool, and even further, from the waitlist up until August. If you really want UofM, it can happen. Have a backup plan, but don’t give up. Good luck!
Decision: Deferred
** Stats **
OOS (CA)

GPA: 3.72
SAT: 1480
National Scholar

I think you might have missed something. My son just got accepted, and his older sister is a sophomore. I’m almost certain that there was a place in the Common Application to denote sibling. I would suggest that you contact the Mich representative for your area and explain that the application did not reflect the sibling/legacy status, and that Mich is a first/top choice.
I still haven’t gotten word back and I am worried. When is the next wave predicted to be?
There is no box on the Common App that says “Check here if you are legacy (or URM etc.)” The applicant fills out the parents’ information, including education, and each colleges does what it sees fit with that knowledge.
OOS (CA) LSA…Deferred
4.0uw/4.35w
33ACT
Lots of quality ECs(Mission Trips, Girls State, Peer Mentoring)
8 APs…Top 5%
Frustrated!!..Is there a sense that OOS applicants w/ top tier in-state options…get deferred??? Cali(UCs) Virginia (UVA), N. Carolina (UNC), Texas (UT)
My daughter 36 ACT, 9 AP courses, 7 5s and 2 4s, All state choir, NHS VP, President TriM , got deferred.
@MichiganMom2019 There were several places to add family information. My daughter’s grandmother is an alum…that was entered. Grandmother and grandfather were both briefly employed by the University (years ago)…that was entered. My daughter is OOS and got in to CoE. I was expecting her to be deferred because of her high stats, but I think the family connection really helped.
I do remember there was a question on the Common App asking if any relatives attend(ed) because my D19 asked if she should answer “yes.” My first cousin went to the School of Nursing to become a NP.
I told her to answer it “no” because I didn’t think that relationship counted based on the spirit/intent of the question.
@MichiganMom2019 @skieurope There is a place for family/legacy information. If you look at the Common App, go to U of M, Questions, and the fourth one down is a tab labeled ‘Family.’ It asks “Have any relatives every attended U of M.”
