University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

Looks like they accept someone they feel will more likely accept offer in EA based on whatever criteria, and defer everyone else. My daughter has near perfect SAT, many SAT II/800, UW 4.0, tons of APs/5, AIMEs, USABO semi, lots of ECs…, still deferred. Getting the deferral says nothing about your qualifications. Take it easy, and enjoy holidays.

People get deferred from Michigan but get into Northwestern, Harvard, Yale, Vanderbilt, Berkeley, Cornell etc etc AND vice versa. It is what it is. No one of comparing at this point. Look who got in VS who got deferred. They mostly look the same. I bet the essay has more to do with it then people expect also continued interest. This is just the beginning of this. It continues till mid April. Buckle and and enjoy the ride! Good luck to everyone.

Also, Michigan is trying to increase diversity, Pell grants, etc. and they’re also attempting to fill their freshman class with both in-state and OOS kids (55%/45% for Class of 2022), and a lot of high stat kids unfortunately get deferred in EA.

And at least 27 of them for the Class of 2023 were freshman football recruits!

But I bet a lot of you will get accepted starting Friday, February 1. Best of luck!

I still hsaven’t getton a decision. What do I do?

@LinaOaks Did you receive an email confirming that your early action application was received? Do you have a UM ID and have you checked the portal?

If you don’t have a decision yet, don’t worry!!! I just called the admissions office (because I’m the only one in my school who hasn’t heard back yet…) and a representative said that they’re sending the admissions decisions out in waves due to the sheer number of applicants, so they don’t overload their system. She said to be patient, and that some people will receive information before others, until December 24th. So don’t worry until it’s December 25th and you still haven’t heard back yet… so good luck everyone! And congratulations to everyone who has already heard a favorable response :-bd

I was accepted for engineering, which I’m happy about, but I also have some interest in Ross. Could I still apply?

@smarttart Yes, Ross indicates applications before 11/1 would be given preference, but that you can apply until 2/1. Details here: https://michiganross.umich.edu/programs/bba/application-requirements/preferred-admission

Accepted to LSA :). Very glad that I got in but sadly I don’t think I will be attending due to financial reasons. Central Michigan University is offering me a half ride and I just can’t pass that up. Any body in my boat?

@mckate Yes I did. I have been checking it nonstop.

@ everyone who @ @ me, I’d like to clarify that from my observations, people who submitted their CoE relatively late were deferred. This is not confirmed obviously and I’d like to know if people who submitted in the last few days were accepted.

@daniiimphs My daughter had a full ride to Ohio State but USC all around was a better fit. Everyone’s situation is different and in the end what you make of it. You’ll know the right choice.

I heard if in your deferral letter it says they want you to send pre february grades that’s a good sign. is this true?

@daniiimphs Is there a chance UM will offer you enough to make it work? Do you qualify for their in-state tuition guarantee?

yes

If you mean in terms of campus housing, then no.

@MichiganGoBlue23 I am wondering the same thing. Can someone answer this question pleaseeee

Does anyone know what percentage of people were admitted early action or the number of students admitted?

Instate daughter deferred LSA
1390 sat/29 act
3.96uw/4.36w
All AP classes except math
Great ECs band pres, started MUN club, lots of community service/involvement
Teen of Year in our city; lots of leadership awards
Small catholic school 9 others admitted including some w/ far less grades ECs

We were told by rep that leadership and community involvement was a big factor but doesnt seem to have mattered…

That information is unavailable for the Class of 2023. Plus all EA decisions have not been released.

For the Class of 2022, UMich accepted almost 8,000 EA applications of the almost 40,000 EA applications.
