University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

Is there any info on the number of deferred apps that get accepted later? Would it be a similar percentage to the general RD acceptance rate?

@sushiritto, where did you find this info? Were the 8,000 students admitted right away (as opposed to deferred), or does that include all early applicants who were eventually accepted?

Has everyone getting deferred, received a similar email asking to submit mid-Feb grades?

deferred with 4.67 wgpa, 36 act, 1560 sat, hundreds of hours of ec’s/comm service/leadership, 9 5’s and 3 4’s on ap’s, out of state, i don’t know what to say

Yes, my daughter’s email asked for grades before mid feb

@mckate So, the 40,000 EA apps number came from the UMich Class of 2022 admissions blog. The 8,000 accepted figure came from @SingingBusDriver in this thread from last year:

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-michigan-ann-arbor/2041182-how-many-ea-applicants-for-the-class-of-2022-p2.html

The 8,000 accepted is for students accepted at Class of 2022 EA and doesn’t include any deferred Class of 2022 EA students accepted during RD round.

Edit: Here’s the UMIch admissions blog post:
https://admissions.umich.edu/explore-visit/blog/youve-received-admissions-decision-now-what

ok. So it may be a generic email sent to all deferred.

I’m pretty sure it’s a template email. You know, I purposely read a large chunk of the 2022 blog a couple of months ago to see how this whole process was going to work and told my daughter not to get worried if she was deferred because most of the applicants were. Here we are now, roughly 24 hours after EA announcements, and it’s like all that “prep” has gone out the window.

I’m more concerned about it than my daughter is so of course, I am acting like everything is fine. She applied to 17 schools but UC Berkeley and Michigan are tied as her #1 choice. So I am trying to patiently wait for the official news on these two.

I think we all need to sit back and enjoy this crazy ride so we can look back at this when our grandkids go through it and reminisce. Exciting times for these seniors.

@MLG2019 As I’m sure you know, Cal releases late March, unless your D gets notified early because of a scholarship. It’s REALLY long wait.

If the money is equal or isn’t a concern, then I chose UMich in a heartbeat! And the number of family and friends of mine that have gone to Cal, or going to Cal right now, you would think I’m crazy.

@pachpenguin You probably did not show enough interest. With credentials like yours, they probably assume that Michigan is a safety for you since your numbers are more suited for the Ivies. In the future, I’d suggest you email your ao on a regular basis, visit campus, and let your passion show in the essays. Good luck in RD!

Anyone know the admit rate for LSA honors?

Was anyone denied??

I"m also trying to figure out if anyone was denied as someone told me people were denied, but I have not actually heard of anyone. I’m trying to figure out if our deferral is actually a positive thing…

@pachpenguin

They assume you ED’d atan Ivey, Nothwestern, WashU, Vandy, etc. and if admitted to your ED school would withdraw your Mich application, which in turn messes with their yield. If your GC calls/writes to his/her Mich admissions contact and firmly states that you WILL enroll if admitted, you likely will get your acceptance in Feb. Better for the GC to do it than for you to do it. There’s more on the line for the GC not to be trustworthy.

The only “denial” post that I can remember was Post #1210 on Page 81 by @michigan110 :

@pachpenguin Unreal. Would be absolutely shocking if you weren’t accepted later. Hang in there.

Has anyone else still not heard back?
