University of Michigan Class of 2023 Early Action

I have just realised that I got around $34K in grants.

Need-based aid is calculated based on your FAFSA and your CSS Profile. Did you submit the CSS Profile?

As for merit scholarships … are you in-state or our-of-state?

@brantly

I have the same questions about merit scholarships for OOS admitted students (LSA). I found a the LSA Scholarships page, but couldn’t tell if incoming freshman (who have not committed to UM yet) are eligible. Wording of a few app questions implied the LSA Scholarships were for incoming freshman who have committed to UM or returning students.

If you click through to apply for the Bell scholarship, it asks the UM college “to which you have applied or been admitted,” so maybe that one isn’t just for committed students (?). Not sure about the others.

@hhammoud23, the Regents Scholarship ($1,500) is for merit and is not need-based (based on your FAFSA). Are you sure they’ve already posted your entire financial aid package?

@romns116 Here’s the information about scholarships. There’s not that much for incoming freshmen. Make sure you fill out My Scholarship Profile, which is linked to on this page:

The biggest merit scholarship is the Stamps scholarship. Your chance of getting it is next to zero. Only about 10 students a year (I think) get it. It covers full cost of attendance.

Wow they boosted Stamps…a few years ago not that long ago it covered about half the cost!

Just received my packet.

Hello! I have submitted my CSS Profile as well. In the special circumstances section, I mentioned how there is sort of a discrepancy on my FAFSA and CSS that makes my family look like we have a lot more than we do, and I talked to a financial aid officer in Ann Arbor who said they would see if they could help out. I am in-state. I was just wondering if this was the final package or if there is a shot for me to get anything else. Thanks!

@hhammound23. If legit Michigan will do what they can. They are very fair and reasonable. You might not get what you think you should but looking back they are very fair. You might have to support your claim with other documents etc.

Anyone know how selective the MUSIC Matters scholarship is?

For Engineering I’ve been asked to apply to Engin Academy. Has anyone else. Seems like a great opportunity but also restrictive. Have to live in north campus first year. Can’t join any other organizations first year including sorority.

I got deferred early action for engineering but I decided I now want to study neuroscience. Does anyone know if admissions would let me change what major/college they consider me for?

First get accepted. You can change majors anytime. If you get accepted they will tell you to discuss this with your advisor when you go register for classes. If you get accepted you can call admissions and ask them how to proceed.

@Knowsstuff I wanted to change it now because I also have a better chance of getting in for neuroscience than engineering, because they are in different colleges.

@hannah1789.

You can call admissions but not sure if it works that way. Otherwise everyone would be doing it after getting tests scores /grades etc.

@hannah1789 unfortunately you can’t change now, despite LSA being much easier. You’ll have to hope for Engineering and then transfer.

LSA avg is 3.8gpa. Engineering is 3.9 gpa. Not a huge difference. Slightly higher Act avg for engineering.

I’m still waiting for my admission package. Am I the only one?
P.S.I’m an international student in Dubai

@Knowsstuff it’s not just the stats - there’s also type of person they look for (in terms of ECs and interests), quality of applicants, etc.
