You need a 2.5 overall GPA and should have at least B grades in math, chemistry, and physics.
What is your intended major? Certain major has minimum GPA requirement.
Mechanical engineering. Are there minimum GPA requirements for each major? The only actual requirement I have been able to find is the 2.5 minimum that you need to have in order to apply to CoE from LSA. In addition there are these “recommended minimum GPA” 's. The recommended minimum for MechEng is 3.0. Is this a survival recommendation or an actual requirement for the MechEng Dept?
The minimum GPA requirement may have changed. A few years ago, BME has a 3.2 minimal requirement to declare major.
I think it was pretty recently where the minimum GPA for all departments is now 2.5. I don’t think it is mandatory to have at least B grades in math, chem, and physics, but getting at least B’s in those will definitely improve your chances. They do consider your essay(s) and resume. It is highly unlikely that all they look for is you having at least the minimum GPA.
@umcoe16 what do they look for in your resume? I know that sounds like a dumb question, sorry. I do not have any engineering-related extracurriculars, I just have a few clubs that I have participated in and my student job. Will my chances be hurt because of my fairly generic resume?
Thank you
I don’t think a lot of people will have much experience that is engineering related either. Therefore, I don’t think it’s a huge deal if yours may be fairly generic. I think maybe they want to make sure you know how to write a resume?
