@HRSMom I get what you’re saying, that Michigan defers students because they have slight reservations. But this obliterates the entire point of EA, which according to UMich is “just a way of getting one’s decision early”. I know, that for 100,200,300,1000, 5000 applicants even, they might not be sure and hence defer them to the regular round. But it seems to me that they’re deferring almost EVERYONE, rejecting no one, and accepting -relatively speaking- a handful. This is NOT early action. This is ridiculous. Early Action? Might as well call it “you’re gonna get deferred anyway, spend some more time on your application and apply by the regular deadline because that’s quintillion times more productive than having to wait agonizingly till December 24th only to see you got a generic email saying that you’re gonna potentially have to wait till APRIL”
Well, there were 600+ people at a Campus Day event a few weeks ago and that was one of several campus days in February alone. So clearly no everyone was deferred.
Here are some of the deferral statistics for other top schools:
MIT EA 656 out of 7,767 (8.4%) (4776 deferred=61.5%) (2175 rejected=28%)
Georgetown EA 892 out of 7027 (12.7%) (remainder deferred=87%)
Harvard SCEA 918 out of 6173 (14.9%) (4673 def=75.7%) (464 rej=7.5%)
Yale SCEA: 795 out of 4662 (17.1%) (53% def) (29% rej)
Brown ED 669 out of 3030 (22.1%) (1905 def=62.9%) (456 rej=15.0%)
The problem is that if you are applying to a highly competitive school, and expect to have a quick decision, your expectations are unrealistic.
I’d sure like to see U-M stats of how many kids were accepted, denied and deferred from EA. I don’t believe anyone was denied. U-M likes keeping the ball in their court.
@blprof Stanford says hi - statistically it’s more likely to get accepted than deferred from their SCEA program, which says a lot
Well, my son is handling the waiting game very well, I’m the one (his mom) who’s a nervous wreck about it. I hate for him to be missing out on pre-college activities of his future school. Whatever college that may turn out to be.
If you look through the EA thread, kids were rejected outright. So was my kid getting accepted, who was one of the 600 kids there a few weeks ago, just luck of the draw? (He got deferred from 2 other EA schools.). They fix on a number they will accept EA and try to stick to it. Thousands of kids were accepted, and will be accepted in RD too.
Guys, don’t make sour grapes before you even know your answer! Your answer could be “accepted” in the end!! Just go with the process. Relax. And good luck!
Everyone should stop being so salty about the admissions process as its out of our control. But can someone tell me how/when the decisions are released in march?
My d said her WA says nothing. When she got deferred she hot an email. If she is rejected will she get an email Aldo?
Not sure how accurate this is or who this person is but his acceptance analysis seems reasonable
that person is leaving out all of the withdrawn applications due to ED/ED2 acceptances, or just people committing to other schools.
I know someone who works at U of M. He said that this was the smallest EA admit percentage ever…15%. I don’t think anyone got rejected
Seems like a really small decision release last Friday. When will the next release be?
@marcymar it should probably be this friday
Do we think that there’s a strong possibility that they’ll be released at midnight tonight?
Probably considering we were almost certain they’d be released last week
If it’s speculated that they’re coming out tonight, why is this thread dead?! C’mon people, you’re killing my wishful thinking!!!
I was so sure that last week was it, but i’m sure it has to be tonight. If it is, I think UMich will release the next and final decisions a month from now in early April.
tonight is the night
Please let tonight be the night :-/
Nothing on my portal so far sadly
