I noticed that one deferral is from LSA admissions and one is a blanket deferral for all other schools. Would say the message is pretty equal.
I think we can start getting deferral decisions the Friday of the first week of February. Not that much longer to wait hopefully
no, nobody will be annoyed. just send it. - from a class of 2k19 student
Everybody will get at least an automated response after break.if you don’t, resend your email
yes it’s true - from a class of 2k19er
Guys, I’m a 2019 Victor and I just wanted to say. JUST SEND YOUR LETTERS IN RN. WAITING UNTIL JANUARY DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. I WAS DEFERRED THEN ACCEPTED IN THE BEGINNING OF FEB… At the end, GO BLUE.
If your common app says that your mid year report was downloaded on December 19th, does that mean your first trimester grades have already been sent?
what is to be written in the letter of interest?
@Rahulbarcafan - You should indicate serious intention in enrolling if admitted. Choose your words carefully-your letter needs to show passion and genuine interest in the school. It may also help to include what you did/will do/ are doing in the meantime (like if you won any awards after submitting your application).
Deferred from kinesiology I sent a letter of interest right away and got a response a few days later saying that my interest would definitely be taken under consideration. Should I send a teacher Rec too?
@brendancollins I think that would depend on the deferral letter you received. If you got the letter saying that they would have more than enough to evaluate you, sending more materials may hurt instead of help.
What did you guys write about in your letters of interest?
Like what did you include and talk about?
Is it harder to get into um after being deferred? I’m wondering what the statistics are for it.
Does anyone know if I got the automated reply, does the admissions person still see the email I sent? My admissions rep is out of the office and I got the automated reply, so not sure if he will see the email I sent?
Yes, they still see it.
I got this letter of deferral. Would it still be appropriate to write a letter of interest even though it says “we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require.”
HERE IS THE DEFERRAL LETTER: Thank you for your application to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for Fall 2016. We are pleased that you have applied and are impressed with your achievements. However, our high application volume, coupled with the very strong credentials of our applicants in recent years, has contributed to an increasingly competitive admissions process. As a result, we are writing to inform you that your application is currently being deferred for further review.
While this is not the answer that you were hoping to hear, your application remains under consideration. All final admissions decisions of admit, deny, or waitlist will be made no later than early April, 2016.
Strong fall semester or trimester grades may improve your status in the deferred pool of applicants. Therefore, please ask your high school counselor to forward them when they become available. Beyond that, we are confident that the information you have given us is more than sufficient for a final decision. The most successful candidates send us only what we require. Please refer to the website https://umich.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2080 for FAQ’s about the admission process and what to do next.
We hope your interest in Michigan continues. You have our best wishes for an enjoyable and successful end of your senior year.
Sincerely,
Erica L. Sanders
Interim Director
This was asked earlier, but do we just send an email, or attach an actual letter as a word doc for a letter of continued interest?
@beastly333, my son received the same deferral letter as you. I didn’t realize there were so many different versions. Not sure if it’s a big deal or not that in your version they do not give very specific info. for how the mid-term grades should be sent like another version did. @whizkid98, I think either an email or an attached letter would be fine. I believe I read somewhere else that an email was acceptable. I think it’s whatever you feel comfortable sending. I think an attached letter is a little more formal, and if you like that, then I think you should do that. Good luck to you both!
I sent an attached letter today at 8:04 AM, 4 minutes after the admissions office opened, and I received an automated reply about 20 min. later. The reply said the office was still closed, so I may have sent it too early. If I don’t get another response in the next few weeks, I guess I’ll ask to make sure if they got it.
I sent an email of interest on 3rd January and haven’t received a response yet (besides an automated one saying that office is closed). If I don’t receive one within the next week, should I send it again?
