@psashu one B in AP calc BC is NOT BAD! I also received one B and the rest A’s, being in all AP. If they don’t let us in because of one B, then… then… I’ll just give up right there. I got a B+ in AP French 4 and it’s only because my school thinks it’s cool to make a 93% an A in foreign language instead of a 90% and I got a 92%… But whatever. I’m slowly grieving from that loss… Haha anyways, do not stress over a B, especially in AP Calc BC, that’s a great accomplishment in such a hard class.
For anyone who requested that their first semester grades be sent in, does it show on Wolverine Access when those grades are received? I know my grades have been sent or will be sent very soon from my high school but I was just wondering if there was a way that I could be sure my grades were received by admissions.
@coffee18 oh man I’m so sorry. that must suck I’ve been in many close cases like that too. But I heard somewhere that they look at the grading scale in the school too and since its harder to get an A in those classes at your school as opposed to others, they might look at your scenario more favorably? Not entirely sure if that’s true(or if it made any sense). Also thank you for the much needed morale booster! I was pretty disheartened when the counselor told me that, but I think I’m starting to relax a bit now. Hopefully they’ll take us both otherwise idk what to say.
@coffee18 @psashu don’t even get me started on grading scales. A 90-92 is a B+ for all classes at my school, you need a 95 for a straight A. I’ve had three 92% B+'s in the past (the rest A/A-'s), and it actually drives me crazy.
@GoPack87 dang and here I thought I had it bad! In my school only a few classes have different grading scales but those work in the opposite way like the percent to get an A is much lower. My ap physics class has an 80%+ to get an A lol. that’s why I was thinking that the counselors would take that grading scale factor into consideration
@psashu yup. I’m in AP Physics this year as well. I got a 89%… which is a straight B. I had a strong 91% going, but then my teacher decided to only curve our final exam by 3 points (it was formatted like a formal ap exam). I pray every day that they carefully consider grading scales lol
Is there anyone doing the IB Diploma Program who got deferred?? What predicted score does Umich require for admission?? I’m an international applicant by the way!!
For those of you that sent in letter of continued interest after your deferral, how long did it take before you received any type of response even it was just the automated form letter?
@seanalex1 I received the automated response immediately after I sent my email and the actual response from my counselor came 3 days later.
My son sent his letter of interest/update on Jan. 11th, and he got the automated response immediately. He got an email from his regional rep. yesterday, Jan. 12th. Hope that helps, @seanalex.
@lolonimous I’m in-state doing the IB Diploma Program, and as far as I know Michigan doesn’t require any predicted scores, though I’m not sure how it is for international applicants. Is the IB diploma the only secondary school diploma you’ll be receiving?
Have any of you guys received a letter of interest return email from a counselor that was something other than the generic version. It seems that I received a much shorter email than most and I’m not sure what to make of it.
Hi @whizkid98, my son’s return email was mostly a standard version, but she did say at the beginning that she would be sure to include his interest and his updates in his file. She said something like that. Perhaps that is canned too? I thought it was up front, and I was glad his email was acknowledged.
Should I be concerned if I only got an automated response and not one from my counselor?
@GoPack87, I would be surprised if you didn’t hear back from your regional rep. If you don’t, I think that is more of a negative reflection on them as a representative than of you as a candidate. Perhaps follow up with your representative if you don’t hear back in 1.5 weeks. Maybe they didn’t get your email or maybe they are just swamped.
@Winky1 My regional counselor didn’t even mention that my letter was added to my file. I was only told to send in my mid-year grades.
@whizkid98, I bet they automatically include correspondence in a student’s file. You could ask if your expressed and sustained interest was noted in your file, but I am not sure how. Maybe mention this in a short email or in a later follow up?
@Winky1 I might do that if I don’t get accepted when the first batches of deferral acceptances start coming out. Thanks.
Just got a response ! It seemed pretty generic, but she did say " be assured that it will be noted in my evaluation of your application, along with the recent accomplishments you shared." So that’s good , i guess
@lolonimous Me!!! I’m the full IB Diploma Program and I was deferred! ( I’m in the U.S)
