@whizkid98 Yes it is the only high school diploma I would be receiving.
@lolonimous In that case, UMich might like to see predicted scores, but I don’t think they’re required for admission. However, even with good predicted scores, admission should be tough. Even for in-state applicants, the full IB Diploma program is by no means a guarantee for admission to Michigan. Unfortunately for me, I learned that first hand
Officially changed my schedule to what UofM was hinting at needing from me (same rigor as past three years of high school). I made sure my counselor made a call too to let my counselor know about my new schedule, co-op details, and how the school is first choice and I was told directly by my admissions director they were happy the only problem with my application was corrected. He acknowledged any emails I’ve sent him too. I called my regional admissions director myself and had a nice conversation about my schedule, a few more necessary details about the co-op I’ve done first semester, and then general academics. He answered a few questions and he was saying some positive things - hopefully that’s all going to go well!
when do mid-year grades have to be submitted by? My mid-year quarterlies don’t start until the 25th and then grades are not finalized for about another week. Is this too late?
@layla2016 my regional counselor told me that it was okay if they arrived past the February 1st deadline, since they understand.
By when would Umich start releasing the decisions for international prospective students who were deferred??
@lolonimous they never have a set date for anyone, but there’s no reason why February wouldn’t ALSO mark the beginning for international responses.
I sent a letter of continued interest to my regional counselor today and she replied about an hour or two later saying “tHANK YOU.”
Lol is that a good thing
@EZMoney123 I don’t know, I hope so! Sometimes it seems like the counselors don’t even try much with the responses; maybe it means that they’re already pretty much done with our app and are ready to admit us? I dunno, just wishful thinking.
@EZMoney123 it’s a good thing that they’ve acknowledged your email! That means they’ve noted your interest and seen what you have to say. Don’t worry too much about it - a lot of people aren’t getting responses.
Did anyone get an email about HAIL interview?
@PButter for engineering?
@PButter
UofM says this:
“The interviewer’s role is twofold: to capture and share impressions of the student to the admissions committee and to share one’s own Michigan experience with the applicant. Interviewers must be Michigan Engineering Alumni and must attend a training session, or complete online training. Interviews will be conducted in November and February.”
So it sounds like if it goes well - the admissions office will know!
I find it strange that I was deferred from Michigan EA but accepted to UVa EA, but whatever. I’m OOS for both.
I didn’t get a response from my regional counselor when I emailed her…
S got an email about the HAIL interview back in November. He responded, and never heard back from anyone. They have a link you can click on at that point and it said basically oh well, thanks for your interest.
@s16s18s21s25 Was that for EA? I didn’t get an interview even though I applied early, but I’m getting one now.
Yes, it was EA.
@emilyskates My son also got deferred from Michigan and accepted at UVA. He is also out of state for both. Congrats on UVA!!
@emilyskates They are very different schools with very differnt things they want in a student. My kid had the opposite experience as you. (I’m betting you are happier with a UVa accept anyway, as my kid seems happier with the Michigan one:).
@emilyskates - when you are talking about the most selective schools that have huge numbers of applicants, there is a lot of variability in decisions. Rarely do you hear of a student who is accepted to every top school they applied to.
