@billcsho what is a LoLi?
Letter of Lost Interest.
The University said in their deferral letters that they had more than enough information to make a decision. Does that mean I shouldn’t send in a LOCI?
@NSaltzman I would send a LOCI anyway- I sent one right after I was deferred EA this year and was recently accepted in the beginning of February. They seem to care about demonstrated interest, especially in regards to applicants with high stats. Best of luck!
@billcsho hah when I saw your LoLi post I Laughed Out Loud Idiotically
So we’re looking at Friday, March 9th to be the next wave?
Why not March 2nd? If not March 2nd, I think March 9th is all but a guarantee, right?
I can’t stand this stupid speculation anymore… I am pulling my application.
Good luck to the rest of you.
I have it on information secured from a source that once played professional ping-pong with a guy who tended bar part time at Ashley’s that final notifications will come out by either email, regular mail, portal or carrier pigeon at some time between now and April 30th. This same source also said that if there are any changes in tabs or hyperlinks on your portal account it is the Russians and you should immediately reformat your hard drive and make a hat out of tinfoil.
@Johngaltlll I am sure this brings a sigh of relief to the. students here. Great tip. =D>
Omg this thread. They said by April 1st, so just wait. You will get an email saying congrats if you do get accepted, there’s no need to check your portal 30 times a day…
That’s right. The problem is not UMich. It is those who speculates and those who follow the speculation to check. Even if there is a batch of release, it does not mean your admission result is out. Just wait for the e-mail.
@billcsho, doesn’t sending your mid year grades constitute an LOCI? I didn’t send an LOCI but did send the mid year grades and was downloaded. When I talked to the rep about my NMF status she said all they need is the mid year grades. Nothing else. Should I still send an LOCI? Can I loose my admission because I didn’t send and LOCI
@MoTownBlues Don’t worry. LoCI is just one way to express your continue interest. Don’t overdo it to annoy the admission office.
The fact that the the top student in the class who applied was deferred but other students below the top 10% were accepted made the EA acceptance to Harvard a no-brainer. Michigan is all about yield.
Obviously scores and GPA are not the only things they consider. Yield is not just a number but a result of the likelihood a student will attend. There is no over qualified applicant at UMich. It is likely something in your application suggested UMich is not your top choice that get you deferred as other students with high stat got accepted.
It is not about yield “protection,” it is about enrollment management. Part of Michigan’s decision has to be, how many of these 60,000 plus students who have applied will actually attend? Michigan has a very difficult task on its hand; I for one don’t know how they do it. If Michigan makes even a 10% error on admissions, it will end up with 1000 extra students.
Harvard has a much easier time with admissions because they know that most of the admitted students will say yes. And they have slightly more than half the number of applications as Michigan to sort through.
@billcsho if that is the case then how do they only accept the most competitive in EA and defer everyone else? Some ppl in my school with lower stats got in early but others got deferred. Even this one kid with a 36 got deferred at my school.
Read my post again. It is not just stat for the admission. Even if you have the stat but revealed your lack of interest in the essay, you would not be accepted. ACT 36 does not guarantee admission. Over 25% of admitted students have ACT 34-36. They have plenty of high stat applicant to choose from if they want. There are also 25% admitted students with ACT 31 or below, so why would you be surprised by someone got admitted with lower stat. They claim to have the same criteria in EA and in RD, but there are different admission goals. Note that vast majority of the merit scholarships are given to EA admitted students who have high stat and strong application, and yet many did not get one. It is simply not logical to think they would avoid strong candidates in EA admission where they also admitted the strongest candidates and granted them scholarships. Their yield rate and admission stat are both getting higher every year. There is nothing they need to protect.
Only the high stat kids at a highly ranked independent school were deferred while the others were admitted. The high stats kids have acceptances to Harvard, Yale and Pomona. There is no way that their Michigan essays and ECs were lacking.
