I’m a high school senior at a highly ranked public school in Michigan and was deferred from the university of Michigan LSA program this December. I currently have a 3.9 GPA weighted. I got a 28 on my ACT. I have taken 2 APs before senior year and have 4 this year. I have 5 years of Spanish and advanced math. My mom graduated from u of m and my uncle currently is the director of systems engineering and emailed the admissions office expressing his support of my application. This is my second year in NHS and second year participating in my schools freshman mentoring program. Out side of school I have been a member of my churches youth group for 4 years which has several community service projects every year. I have also been a competitive figure skater since I was 4 years old. In skating I have been honored as a United States figure skating triple gold medalist which less than 3% of figure skaters ever receive. I was also awarded the platinum level (which is the highest level) for the graduating senior award program. I have been a national competitor and national medalist. My greatest achievement was being part of Team USA for my synchronized skating team. We travel around the country and also traveled to France to represent the USA in the French cup. I have contacted them expressing my continued interest. What are my chances? This has always been my top choice!
Your GPA and tests scores are relatively unimpressive, but your extracurricular accomplishments are great and show good focus + dedication. The problem is that Michigan is not a school that cares as much about extracurriculars as some other schools do. Still, with your uncle holding a position on faculty, living in state, and with your achievements outside of school I would think it is fairly likely you will get accepted.
