University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

If I have a 3.64 UW Gpa and a 30 on my ACT what are my chances? Also, my dad is a big legacy at UM and is on the board of one of the societies at the school… I have a lot of recommendation letters from people within the university helping me out. Do I have any chance?

Somebody please chance me for LSA!
3.68 GPA, 1940 SAT, 9 APs total, really good recommendations, Debate Team (Novice director and active debater with successful record) , Speaker Awards, BetaGirls (Coding Program), NakedAngels (Theatre Program), Mayor’s Office Internship, Hope Club, Key Club, Ethnic Clubs, 235+ community service hours.
I also attended UMichigan’s debate camp at Alice Llyod Hall in the summer of 2014.
I wrote my common app essay on how debate marked my transition from childhood to adulthood and my supplements on coding (for activities) and cosplay (for community).
My stats aren’t that good but I’m hoping by some stroke of luck :frowning:

My sister currently attends UMich at the School of Engineering

Idk I’m really concerned because everybody else’s stats sound so good

Guys, calm down. The results are gonna be out in like 2 days, so it really doesn’t matter if someone chances you. If you really want that psychological validation boost, go to the chance me forum (I’m not trying to sound like a **** but you see the point)

What time and date will EA results be out?

@ShaunakK98 Results will be released by the 24th at the latest. Most of the EA results will supposedly come out this Friday. Maybe 3:00, but I’m not sure.

Remember guys, if we get rejected, there’s always Star Wars :’)

The difference between everyone else and us is that they are all waiting for the new Star Wars movie this Friday. We are waiting for our decisions from UMich.

@McKilla99 And you don’t have to pay 50k a year for Star Wars

I’m a junior transfer in my first semester at U-M, and as I was going through this thread I couldn’t help but notice someone say, “Don’t worry, we’ll get into that top 10/15 for grad school!”

I just want to say, I thought similarly through my admissions process, but after doing a lot of research I learned that grad school is a completely different animal. For grad, you want to go to the program that’s top 10 in your field, not top 10 overall. Your list of top grad schools will most likely be different from the list of top schools in general, particularly if you’re interested in research.

Even as I was applying as a transfer though, I knew what I wanted to do well enough (compared to HS) that I rejected a top 15 US News nationally ranked school because their departments weren’t as good for my major (Michigan happens to be ranked in the top 10). So don’t sweat the U.S. News national rankings. (Or even global rankings, though iirc for 2015 Michigan was #14 in the world, tied with Yale. Lol.)

Once you start college, you’ll notice people don’t really care as much about these rankings, or at least take them with a huge grain of salt. It’s oddly enough almost a “high school thing” to care about what US News says. Just know that if you applied for something other than rankings–like opportunities and resources offered–and you work hard to get the most out of the uni, you’re basically golden. (This applies for unis other than U-M too, so if you’re rejected don’t be too discouraged.)

@infiniteCircle at least Star Wars can’t reject me

@LukeSkywalker5 We will see how Disney does.

Are decisions maybe going to be released Friday at 3:00 eastern time or central time?

@eyo777 thanks that made me feel a lot better

@collegeisfun18 eastern. But that doesn’t necessarily mean central would get their decisions at 2. They send them out in waves, at different times, so even if you don’t get an email on the 18th, don’t panic. It’s not like they send all the accepted on one day, then deferred the next.

Low key, if @whizkid98 doesn’t get in, I’m gonna be pissed. Creating this thread is the only stat that’s important B-)

Does anyone know if michigan drops non-core courses such as art and gym when recalculating GPAs? If so, would they also drop theology courses for a student from a Catholic school?

@GoPack87 I would like to know as well.

@GoPack87 and @infiniteCircle They do not drop any classes, they only recalculate. Good luck!
