University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

@sidthekid7

How’d you do?

Honestly it seems almost inexcusable that such an esteemed university would have such an “up in the air” way of informing applicants… Is an actual date, especially when we’re approaching the decision time, that much to ask for?

This is one of the only times when I’m glad that I’m in California. Just woke up and only have an hour or so to wait ;u;

So we check WA first right? I’m so nervous…

WA has nothing up…yet

just need a decision!

does legacy help a lot?

I really hope that UMich doesn’t do the whole deferral-because-of-high-stats thing again. I’m not sure where I stand because my GPA isn’t that great (3.7), but I have an ACT of 35 and really don’t want them to defer me because of this

Those are basically my stats too. I just got deferred from MIT, so I really want a definitive answer from Michigan.

@sungjong how were your essays/ EC’s?

They defer high stat OOS applicants because they assume that’s it’s not their first choice

Elite universities don’t give preference to those who live in a particular state - they’re indiscriminate. If UMich wants to become elite, they should let go of this thing where Michigan>everyone else. It just sucks.

@McKilla99 it is a state flagship though. If you get state funding, you have to give state preference. I suppose they could “go private” but I don’t even know how they would do such a thing!

I don’t think they’d be allowed to go private. For example, Berkeley is also considered a highly elite school, but they still give significant preference to Cali residents.

They would never go private, that’d have to be approved by the state of regents which would never happen. And Umich already is elite

Any news yet?

@RugbyDude6 not for me. still waiting!

@McKilla99 I believe last year umich had approx 55% in state to 45% oos & international students. The chancellor was quoted a few years ago saying she wanted more OOS because they pay the full ticket. The ratio has been climbing ever since…and it’s way more OOS than Wisconsin lets in.

10,000 in state kids apply and 40,000 out of state kids apply…
