University of Michigan EA class of 2020 thread

Do you guys know if, say, people from your school are also applying to Mich then does Mich only take a select number of people from each school? People in my town say that for WashU they usually only take one person each year… idk is that a thing for selective schools? For UMich?

@whizkid98 You should get the mail in a few days. Do not contace Umich regarding this.

You’ll most likely get your decision on Friday, December 18. If not then, you’ll get it sometime between the 19th and 24th.

I just got the confirmation email. Now we wait…

EA confirmations were sent today!

One month today… hopefully. :))

jumpingstar, there is no limit on any high school for number of students admitted. Some schools, especially private ones, have a reputation and have a greater chance of students being admitted. A college will not deny based on a school, or number of students applying from there. Most likely that is referring to the fact that the school is hard to get into, so only a few from a particular school get in.

Anyone here applying as an engineering major?

The top two feeding schools are within Ann Arbor that each sent way over 100 students there every year. There are many schools that send over 50 students to UMich each year too.

@McKilla99 Yes, son is applying to CoE OOS. Applied EA. Are you IS or OOS

@McKilla99 What are your stats. Let’s compare

@overthetopmom I’m OOS - International infact.

SAT - 760/780/780 (CR/M/W)
ACT - Didn’t take
Class rank - No class rank
GPA - 9th - 91%, 10th - 93.1%, 11th - 88.6%, 12th - 94% Predicted - CBSE curriculum (Indian living in Dubai)

ECs and stuff;
Generic to quietly impressive, and quite a few.

Already applied Northwestern ED btw

Your SAT score is great.

We are OOS
ACT - 34
uwGPA 4.0/w 5.0 ultra competitive public HS
All the AP classes and H classes
5’s on all AP tests
All the other normal stuff that all good candidates have plus sibling/grandparent/great grandparent legacy if that does anything.
My son thinks he’ll be deferred

@overthetopmom I’d say your son has a very good chance. Sure many OOS applicants will have equal great stats but the legacy should pull him over.

@collegemom2boys Even for engineering??

@overthetopmom your son has a more than good chance of getting into UMich. If I were him, I’d apply to a few ivies as well - Cornell, UPenn, Brown to be specific. I’m applying to these as well

@overthetopmom Yes, even for COE. If he shows interest that would be a plus also because many of the applicants are deferred because Michigan believes they are being used as a safety and they have been known to try to protect their yield.

Michigan has been his number 1 choice forever. Hopefully, his essay conveyed that. Now it’s the waiting game.

@McKilla99 Just curious, which of the ivies are strong in engineering?
