I applied EA for Michigan 2020. Almost all my classmates got their decisions on Friday, but i still have not gotten mine yet. Should I be worried? What should I do and can anyone help me on why this is the case? Thanks
@Join20 Try calling the admissions office.
@QueenOfBohemia My dad used the U Michigan chat log, I’m not sure which one, and they told me that they are still processing my app. I am just concerned because several classmates of mine with lesser credentials already got in on Friday.
@Join20 Don’t fret! Think positive thoughts.
@QueenOfBohemia Well thanks for you advice. Do you think that they are not very confident or sure of my application or do you think this is more likely that they have just too many apps to process since i’ve heard that Michigan has seen a spike in applications in recent years?
@Join20 No problem! It’s probably just the spike.
Son (home-educated) got accepted to College of Engineering. He found out Saturday morning (but it could have come in on Friday).
2 legacies in my family received those"family deferral" letters a few years apart. One accepted early February, other accepted late January.
Does any accepted student know when we’re supposed to receive the acceptance packages?
@03100504 What’s the family deferral letter?
Still waiting…
Are decisions being released today?
EA announcements are still coming out. A couple years ago, my D also received her admission notice many hours later than her friends with lower stat. One shouldnot worry about it until an official notification is received.
Just got my official Deferral email.
"Thank you for your freshman application to the University of Michigan. After an initial individualized and comprehensive review of your application, we have determined that we will need additional information in order to make a final decision. We will not re-evaluate your application file until after our regular decision deadline of February 1, 2016. We need this additional information and time to ensure that we give your application the best possible review. We will notify you of a final decision on your application by early April.
The quality of grades earned in academic courses is one of several critical factors taken into consideration in evaluating a student’s competitive admissibility. To give your application a final evaluation, we will need your fall semester or first trimester grades. Because it is important that we receive these grades as soon as possible, please request to have a PDF of your grades sent from the issuing institution to our office via an e-transcript vendor or to ecredentials@umich.edu. If your counselor sent the initial School Report for your application through The Common Application online portal, they will need to complete the 2015-2016 MidYear Report using the same method. Otherwise, please ask your high school counselor to fax a report of these grades to our office at 734-936-0740."
So if I get a 4.0 this semester, I should be accepted?
@WallTitan117 Nothing is ever guaranteed, but the best possible way of improving your chances is getting a 4.0.
@Parent1337 That is exactly why they deferred her, Michigan was afraid of her getting accepted into an ivy league/prestigious school. If they accepted her, then their acceptance rate would have become higher and yield lower, and they want to remain as a selective school. Michigan seems to be doing this with many of the high stat applicants, but it can probably be turned into an acceptance through a letter of interest.
My daughter sent an email to her admissions rep after her deferral Friday expression her disappointment in the deferral and her desire to still attend Michigan. Heck, we were ready to put her deposit in immediately after her acceptance.
The rep said they had over 30,000 ea applicants.
My daughter has good stats - 3.9uwgpa, 32act, strong ec, strong essays, visited campus at least 4 times, and amazing letters of recommendation. She has even spoken to the admissions rep several times and her go had even spoken to the rep about my daughter. I think it can be the luck of the draw, who reads your application, what mood they are in, etc. so many applicants, so many variables.
She has been accepted to other great schools but Michigan is her #1 still.
It’s in the hands of the application gods and she can only hope they see her true passion for Michigan.
@03100504 what exactly is a family deferral?
@golfstudent13 If you are talking about financial aid/merit scholarship as being part of the acceptance package, this is what I was told by an admissions officer - Merit scholarship offers will be sent out in February to qualified accepted students. Don’t know about financial aid.
Hey, so I applied to the LSA/Stamps joint degree program and got an email a few days ago saying I was deferred but there is still no new link/update on either application on Wolverine Access. Is this happening to anyone else? Also, does anyone know if I’ll get a separate decision from Stamps?
