University of Michigan Early Action Class of 2019 Discussion

Haha we’re in the same boat then tedonan.

I’ve got my money on Friday the 19th as well.

@wayneandgarth Maybe. You have to remember that as the state flagship of Michigan, their first responsibility is to educate the residents of that state. I think that is something that will never change no matter how much more difficult it is to get in.

Knowing that my chances of actually getting are low, i’m glad i’m not setting myself up for disappointment

@nicholaskeller - I don’t believe Michigan feels this responsibility anywhere near as much as when state funding was a much larger share of their overall funding.

UMich already is among the highest OOS ratio among public colleges, I don’t think there would be any significant change in that ratio in the near future. The increase in applicants are solely from OOS as the number of Michgian HS graduates is stably going down. So the overall admission rate, and particularly the OOS admission rate, is likely to go further down. To avoid over-admitting next year, they may need to admit closer to 15,000 this year considering the 42% yield rate.

@uofmPlease - What are your stats? Just GPA and test scores, not EC’s if you don’t mind me asking.

Is it true that getting your application in right before the deadline can have a negative impact on your decision? Do you think Umich would defer people because they have too many early applicants and not enough time to look at them all? I submitted mine October 29th :(

@tedonan‌ I hope not! I submitted mine Saturday night. :frowning:

@fdizzle‌ I’m OOS. 23 on ACT (I retook it and expect to have gotten a 26 or so) & my GPA is a 3.8

@wrenwu, yes, my son received an email about the alumni interview. He applied to Engineering. From Texas. My husband and I both attended U of M. He’d love to also.

Good to know @lee6666 - I went to U of M as well! I know that not everyone that applied to Engineering from my son’s school got an email so I was curious about it. I wasn’t aware that U of M conducted interviews.

Last year, UMich delayed (instead of deferred) some of the EA applications submitted near the deadline as it was too overwhelm for the to review so many EA applications in 6 weeks. Some of the EA result came out in January instead of by Christmas Eve as they said.

My son got the invitation to interview. We live in Chicago suburbs and have no connection to the school. No idea how many students are invited to interview or why. Maybe yield management, gauging true interest? Or maybe they send it to all kids in the area, no idea.

Are there only certain areas in which they interview? I’m in New Jersey, should I expect to be interviewed?

The template for results given by OP seems to put no place for what school you applied. Seeing as this is a somewhat large factor, where should we put it?

@nicholaskeller I’d recommend putting it right up at the top, since many people will peruse the results in hopes of finding other engineers, other LSA applicants, etc.

Hey guys! Any international applicants out here!

My older son got in on Dec. 16th 2011- EA. But my questions is for my other son who is applying. Will being a legacy help get him in this year? I would be curious from the students that get in, if they have parents or siblings who are alumni. That would be a great addition.

Just wondering, but what are everyone’s ACT scores?
