University of Michigan Fall 2017 Transfer

@noleeeeee did you get a decision from them yet?

@somersboysmom I applied to Kinesiology. Sports Management

I submitted mine a few hours before the deadline. I called the admissions office yesterday just to make sure all of my materials had been recieved, and the lady told me I’d probably recieve a decision in mid-late March.

@longEngin not yet. I’ve been having issues with my differential equations class meeting their 216 standards because my diff eq class didn’t cover linearization or phase plane analysis. So I’m trying to find a college around me (Chicago land area) that offers this subject matter over the summer (8 of out the 18 colleges that I’ve reached out to have told me they teach this class, they just don’t teach it over the summer).

What about you, have you heard back yet?

@noleeeeee I have not heard anything back regarding my decision. The only email I have is from them asking me to send in syllabus, homework, and tests for credit evaluation of my CIS courses. I’ve been noticing a trend that their decisions releases either on Thursday, or Friday of the week. Therefore I am hoping mine would be next thursday since feb 23 would be a month since my app was marked completed.

Best of luck to you and your DEQ calc courses!

What are CIS courses, if you don’t mind me asking? Computer Science? And if so what were the courses? My S is tying to transfer his courses also. Thanks.

@umsigmadom CIS stand for Computer Information System. I am transferring from a CC so my courses were CIS 150, and CIS 207. They are practically programming classes that work with visual studio, learning how to code in different coding languages. It is mostly for computer science majors but engineers have to take it as well.

Please let me know how that goes with the credit evaluations. Which UM course equivalencies are you trying get for CIS 150 and 207? My S is trying to get equivalency for two CS courses (although they are taught in Java, not C++) and he is receiving a rough time. He may get one course equivalency for the 2 courses. He still has to submit all of the info. I hear they are tough but we hope they are at least fair.

@umsigmadom Has your son been admitted yet? My CIS 150 does not transfer but it was a prereq for CIS 207. CIS 207 is equivalent to their EECS 285. This however doesn’t really apply to me due to my major (ChemE) but they still liked to see it.

Same! material science & engineering! I was torn among biomedical / chemical / material engineering tho…but put material eventually dkw…

The results will be out around mid-april

When decisions are posted, where on Woverine Access will it say result?

@longEngin, yes he’s been admitted. Will definitely be lobbying to get the courses approved. Programming is programming especially the intro course(s). We’ll see. Thanks!

@umsigmadom Oh congrats to him!! I don’t understand why they made me send in course information for credit evaluation when I haven’t even been accepted. I guess you can’t argue much. No problem! I am glad I could be helpful. Good luck to your son at UM!

@HopefullyIGetIn They should all be out early April but they do rolling admission so yours can honestly come whenever they are done reviewing your application.

@entropymademe are you a transfer student?

@longEngin did you read my question?

I applied to the University of Michigan 2 hours before the February 1 deadline.

Major: Mechanical engineering.
GPA: 3.822. (based on 45 credits)
Credits: 60 (including the 15 credits am doing at the moment) Only 4 credits are Gen ed’s
EC’s: Peer tutor (main activity), a member of the science club, along with other minor activities.
Applied on January 30.(priority)
As for the essay, they were probably the best essay’s that I have ever written in my life.
Toefl:101 (took it 2 years ago before arriving in the US)
International, but I study at a CC in Illinois.
I don’t think gender and ethnicity plays a role, but am a male from the Middle East. So I guess am considered white.

Any idea how competitive Mechanical Engineering is? Michigan is one of my top choices, and definitely the hardest to get into.

Does applying in high school increase your transfer chances? I was differed last year and ultimately denied as an incoming freshmen and I went to a local community college for a year before trying again this winter.

a question – could a decision come any day of the week? i know for incoming freshmen they came on fridays, is that the same?

@blackcollegeman i sure hope so! i applied last year and didn’t get in… i’m going to keep applying until they get sick of looking at my name and just have to take me!

@424hara actually they have been coming out on Wed and Thursday’s for Ross preferred after 5pm on admission dates but we never know when…
