University of Michigan Fall 2017 Transfer

@cassidylynnn
As @historyrepeat says I’m assuming they count courses taken this semester because if they didn’t then almost nobody would be considered a junior transfer

@dullbd by completed I assume that would mean graded and I had 30 completed credits and was taking 14 credit hours and I had 12 credits that were from AP tests but like I said those don’t really seem to count to Michigan. So this time I will be applying with 44 credits completed and taking 13 credits this semester. I would absolutely assume they’d go off the credits you’ll have by the end of the academic year if you’re already enrolled in those courses. My understanding is that they go off what your transcript says and what you put in your common app as the classes you’re currently taking. Like I said in my reply to the other person I think it’s always a good idea to email your admissions advisor and ask them for the definitive truth.

Now since your app was marked complete so early I honestly think you could hear back fairly soon. My advisor at my current school knows someone from a past year who applied January 10th and got accepted on the 24th. I think it also depends on how good your stats are and stuff. I had my application marked complete quite a bit before the application deadline the last time I applied but didn’t hear back for I think almost two months from then but I wasn’t at junior standing at that time.

Also are you applying to LSA? I know LSA hears back considerably faster than COE and the other schools

Is there somewhere where Wolverine Access indicates your application is complete, or do you just have to call and ask? I did the latter, and they said everything was in, but I don’t know where to find this information on Wolverine Access.

@broche6 It is not listed on wolverine access if your application is marked complete. You can have everything in but it still might not be marked complete. As far as I know the only way to find out is to call or email your transfer advisor and specifically ask with the words “marked complete”

@historyrepeat Thank you for the detailed response. I am applying to LSA for cognitive science!! I hope to hear back soon, I applied with a 3.51 26 ACT from DePaul University’s Honors College. I applied as a freshman and got waitlisted, but I am from Michigan! I am hoping I get the decision soon, good luck to you!

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses!

@fieldsch @colbem UM does rolling decisions for transfers. If you have everything in by early January, you should hear back by early February.

@HopefullyIGetIn UM looks at how many of your credits will transfer to determine your standing upon transfer - sophomore or junior. Juniors are higher preferred.

@idkwhatimdoinglol generally, yes. It is harder to transfer to most public universities from out of state.

@historyrepeat and @BryanB200 I like both of your chances!

@dullbd decisions probably won’t start until at least next week, but it’s possible some may start trickling in this week.

@limitsbylaw tough to say with you being a sophomore. As a junior you’d be very competitive, but they definitely prefer juniors. You’re probably on the fence, so don’t be discouraged if you don’t get in again. There’s quite a few of us two-time rejects here.

@cassidylynnn Students with 40-60 transferable credits are considered to have attained “junior standing” by the UM Office of Admissions. I’ve spoken to them about that very topic.

Hopefully this clears some stuff up.

@mjr2013 whats your evidence that its harder for OOS to transfer. Sheer speculation or did U-M say that, cause I cant find anything on it.

Or is your point simply that it is generally harder to transfer from OOS, but you are not sure on U-M’s specific policies?

@HopefullyIGetIn In general.

@limitsbylaw I think you have a pretty good shot of being accepted regardless of sophomore standing (most of the people I met at my transfer orientation were sophomores, but that may not be reflective of all admitted transfers for Fall 2016). The only point of concern is your HS GPA which will be considered since you have completed less that 2 years of undergraduate coursework.

Just send my app in-anybody want to chance me?
top 60 public school
LSA-ECON
rising junior
GPA: 4.0
ECs: president of 2 clubs, congressional intern, student mentor, started unofficial football league, member of another club, part time job
2 LOR’s

HS Stats
GPA 2.7 UW
SAT: 1550/2400

@HopefullyIGetIn your chances look good because your a junior applicant, have a great gpa and have some EC’s. I wouldn’t even worry about your HS stats. They probably won’t even look at those very much considering how well you’ve done in college so far. Good luck!

Another question. How do the admissions people evaluate our credits as transferable or not for admissons purposes? I thought our credits don’t get evaluated for transfer eligibility until after we are admitted? I never really understood what they meant by having 40-60 TRANSFERABLE credits if they don’t evaluate those until after we are admitted. Unless I am wrong and they do evaluate them during the admission process. Also, do we need our major pre requisites completed already or can we have them in progess and complete them by the end of spring? I have all but one pre req completed; my last one is currently in progress.

And for those of you who have already sent in your common app, on wolverine access, does it also say undeclared for you guys as well? I applied to LSA Econ but it says undeclared. I know that when I applied as a freshman at my current university, it listed me as undeclared even though I listed my major as econ, but because I am coming in as a junior, I wasn’t sure if it was supposed to say undeclared or econ…

I just got my decision!! ADMITTED!!!

@dullbd When did you apply? And congratulations!

Thank you! My application was marked complete on December 16th!

Almost a month exactly. Sounds like they are on normal schedule

@dullbd did you get an email or just a wolverine access notification? and what did it say?

A link popped up on wolverine access and said View Decision, I clicked it and it said: Congratulations! You have been admitted to the University of Michigan College of Literature, Science, and the Arts! Your official admission letter will be arriving shortly in the mail.
