University of Michigan - Financial Aid Opportunities

Does anyone know of any scholarship/financial opportunities for an OOS freshman at Michigan?

I only have a 30 ACT (4.0 GPA) and am honestly shocked I was even accepted, so I can’t imagine that I’ll be too competitive for scholarships… but does anyone know of anything?

Did you check the NPC?

See the other thread that I have put a link to their merit scholarship info.

Won’t likely get a merit scholarship, but did you run the NPC

My parents are divorced and not on good terms, so it is not possible for me to get them to work out an agreement to allow me to visit anywhere. I work to cover costs of score sending, any visits I may want to take, and application fees.

The family courts have established what share of my education and expenses my parents have to pay, so I don’t have to worry so much about the costs of tuition, housing, etc. It’s the application processes that are my biggest expense right now.

Unless your divorced parents are affluent, it’s very unlikely that the courts have considered the costs of an OOS expensive public Univ. Usually, courts state the cost split based on the costs of an instate public. Your parents may have no intention or even the ability to splitting the costs of UMIch OOS which is probably around $60k per year.

It would be $65k and up next year depending on school and credits.

Yeah, I looked more into the divorce decree. I get it, I can’t expect my POS father to pay for anything at Michigan. Hence why I am here asking for advice, not for you to tell me what my parents do or do not want to do for me.

Thanks!! @billcsho

Did you submit the Fafsa and CSS? That’s the first step. You won’t get merit money, but if you submit those forms you’ll see how much financial aid you’ll get.

You won’t know until receiving the financial package in a couple months. These forms are required for financial anyway. NPC would give you an estimate, but it may be inaccurate for OP due to family situation.
