University of Michigan Financial Aid

Hello,

I was accepted as a transfer student to U-M and received my ESTIMATED aid award. However, I applied last year, and was very close to committing until they told me that they would be taking away around $20,000+ in grants due to my sibling graduating from college. The thing that caught my eye is that although the grant money is different (this year I am actually receiving more due to a tuition increase), the final cost is the same. I know this is estimated and I still have to submit some additional documents, but is the estimated aid award almost 100% of what my official award will be? I am nervous to get my hopes up because a similar thing happened last year.

Also, it says I do not have to submit a CSS Profile like I did last year - is that normal or do you usually fill it out every year similar to the FAFSA?

Thanks!

Why do you think your net cost should be lower this year than it was last year?

It’s not. I expected it to be higher this year, which is what they told me last year, but it is the same amount. @thumper1

Are you sure you indicated only ONE in college on your FAFSA?

I included the school I am currently enrolled in and then also had it sent to Michigan and another school that I was considering transferring to. @thumper1

How many people from your family did you say would be in college? Does the college meet need? I didn’t realize transfers could get the same aid as freshmen.

Last year (18-19), I reported two in college (my sister and I). However, for this year (19-20), the FAFSA only reports one student in college (me). @austinmshauri
