University of Michigan Regular Decision Class of 2022

I hope so cause when I go in the Wolverine access and select the “Award Notices” it says none available. But for award summary it lets me see the year 2019 and everything but it it says 0.00$. So I am like lowkey freaking out!

“Rejected! Thought this would be a reasonably certain admit. Got into Dartmouth, Emory, USC, Wellesley, Berkley, and Cornell but not Michigan?!? Oh well.”

Zumanyx, unless you are a resident of Michigan, the University of Michigan is as selective as Dartmouth, Berkeley and Cornell, and more selective than USC, Emory and Wellesley. You obviously seriously underestimate Michigan.

@Tambor12345
They haven’t completed your financial aid package yet. Mine was like that way back when I got in. When it’s completed they’ll email you and say that your award status has been updated and you’ll be able to see an official award notice

@ Alexandre I didn’t mean to offend. I know Michigan is a great school and is one of the top 30 colleges in the country. It’s just that a number of the other school that accepted me are “ranked” higher than UM. But, I and 11 other seniors, all of whom are in the top 10% my class at my high school in CT., applied and I was the only one who was not accepted. We were all NMF and comparable in terms of SAT scores, academics and EC’s. You never know what resonates with the admission office at a particular school. However, I understand most of them are going to decline their offers due to some very small FA packages, and I probably would have been in the same boat since OOS. It all worked out in the end though since USC gave me a very generous Merit Aid package and I was admitted into the Marshall School of Business. I wish you much success at the University of Michigan!

@Daisy50 Ok, thank god! I am so glad someone else is seeing that too! I pray for a good financial aid package.

“I know Michigan is a great school and is one of the top 30 colleges in the country. It’s just that a number of the other school that accepted me are “ranked” higher than UM.”

Do not believe those rankings. Michigan is as good as Cornell, Dartmouth and Wellesley and better than Emory and USC. The rankings are misleading you and designed to cater to their core market (the Northeast). Nobody who goes to Michigan does so because they believe it is merely a top 30 university. The majority of OOS Michigan students who attend Michigan, just like the entire Academic world and Corporate America, believe it is a top 10, top 15 at the very worst, university, and this is clearly communicated in their essays. That was certainly the case with me when I chose Michigan over several other top 15 universities, including 4 Ivy League schools way back in the day! :wink:

That being said, as an alumnus of Cornell graduate school, I would recommend Cornell among the universities left on your list.

@mstern18 I am going to the UCLA Bruin overnight for admitted students mid-April, then I am flying straight to Michigan for their admitted student day. They both have my major, Astrophysics, hoping to double major in aerospace engineering. I am just going to pick the one that feels right. I have already been to UCLA and loved it, but now with my acceptance to Michigan, I have to go.

Has anyone gotten their financial aid yet??

Just curious, did everyone else who was rejected receive this in their decision email, “Because college is an important next step, we encourage you to make enrollment plans at another college or university. Many applicants who are not admitted to the University of Michigan as freshmen continue their interest in U-M and enter as transfer students. You may wish to consider applying after successfully completing two years of study at another college or university. Our website contains more information about transfer guidelines at admissions.umich.edu/apply/transfer-students.”

@smedehog Congrats on your acceptance to UCLA and UM. That’s awesome!
FYI, all the aerospace companies (Northrop Grumman, SpaceX, etc) are in LA, literally 20.min drive from UCLA.
You might want to keep that in mind.

@present1213 I did

Hey Guys … I got waitlisted at U Mich… what are my chances of getting in now??

“FYI, all the aerospace companies (Northrop Grumman, SpaceX, etc) are in LA, literally 20.min drive from UCLA.”

Boeing’s headquarters is in Chicago and their main facilities are in Seattle and Northrup Grumman’s HQ is in Virginia, with most of its facilities in the DC area. Those two companies combined typically hire 20-30 Michigan graduates annually. Lockheed Martin, NASA, Raytheon and SpaceX typically hire another 25-30 or so graduates combined. So we are looking at 45-60 graduates joining those major companies annually. They also take the same number of interns.

For Aerospace Engineering, it is hard to beat Michigan. That being said, UCLA obviously holds its own too.

Hey guys I got accepted at the beginning of March for mechanical engineering but I still haven’t heard back for any merit scholarship. Do you think I have any chances of receiving one?

Also, is there a group chat for admitted students?

TeamK2, I am sure you have all the relevant data to support the brand equity of UCLA SEAS with the potential employers.UCLA is a great place for undergraduate education. However, their engineering programs are not amongst the best in the country. Cal, Michigan,CMU,GA Tech have distinct edge over UCLA. I am not talking about MIT, Stanford and Cal Tech which, in my opinion, are in a different league.

“Cal, Michigan,CMU,GA Tech have distinct edge over UCLA. I am not talking about MIT, Stanford and Cal Tech which, in my opinion, are in a different league.”

I would put Cal in the same league as Caltech, MIT and Stanford. CMU, Cornell, GT, Michigan and UIUC come next. Then come Northwestern, Princeton, Purdue, UT-Austin. And while Michigan is better than UCLA in Engineering, I would not say it is a distinct edge. UCLA is comparable to Columbia, JHU, Penn, Rice, TAMU and Wisconsin in Engineering. That’s pretty good company and not far below Michigan.

Tit for tat… In the real world, going to any of these great universities will get you a great paying job. The only time it matters is if the company is brand loyal and some are. In Chicago I know of some companies that will try to hire from University of Illinois Champaign since that is where the CEO and /the hire ups on the board went to. Besides that… They are all getting jobs.

@knowstuff Agree, and a lot hinges on where you live. I’ve spoken to recruiters for P&G and they definitely prefer Michigan over the Ivies or East/West Coast schools. But go to Fidelity Investments in Boston, and coming from an Ivy or East Coast school is a definite door opener.

@Alexandre Perhaps but I’ve never understood the rationale for such rankings. Who thinks that way? Certainly not businesses. And to suggest that Columbia is ranked anywhere below Michigan and CMU is funny. But since it’s really irrelevant, it doesn’t really matter.

Is it normal that I still didn’t get any sort of notification from UMich or maybe they just forgot about me lol?
