EXACTLY. And I say this as a parent of a Ross student. Get a B.A. in Anthropology or German literature or History or Physics, then get an MBA if you are interested in studying business. It’s truly not a big deal to not get into Ross. You can have the exact same career.
One of my twins got into Ross back in Feb, and the other just got accepted today. They have nearly the same stats (SAT:1570 and 1560) and similar EC’s (Varsity sports with one year state champions, music, NHS, summer internships, DECA). What is surprising is that the one who got admitted later is perhaps a slightly stronger candidate than his brother who got in earlier. He has shown more demonstrated interest in business (investment portfolio on the side and donates proceeds to a charity), higher GPA 3.9UW vs his brother’s 3.8. I am glad this worked out for both of them, but it also shows how random this can be. The wait had been excruciating. I do believe strong stats help with admission to Ross, but it is certainly not a guarantee as many more students have great stats than they have room for. By the way, we are in state. The few kids we know who have been accepted to Ross from our town are students who have been admitted to Ivies or have their own business.
I know it can be disappointing if not admitted to Ross, but there are many options within LSA for kids interested in business, including a minor in business. Best of luck to everyone!
Fewer than 10 percent of students at University of Michigan is a Ross student. I’m thinking they are fully human and go on to have great lives.
Kind of obnoxious brantly.
My daughter is in! This waiting since December was ridiculous, but worth it in the end. Good luck to those still anxiously waiting, and for those who got denied…minor in business. Don’t get discouraged about Michigan completely. It’s still a #1 school!
Don’t over-think it. The order of notification has NOTHING to do with the strength of the candidate.
I was reacting to an earlier poster who wondered if it’s even worthwhile to go to University of Michigan at all if you don’t go to Ross, as if the 90+% of students not in Ross have no value.
i’m thinking it’s mainly because i’m OOS. without ross, i probably won’t go to michigan
@brantly You were reacting to my post. It is ridiculous to assume from my question that I’m saying 90 percent of Michigan students have no value! For a kid who’s main goal is business, who may have opportunities to major in business at other schools, I was wondering what the thinking was - go to a fantastic school like Michigan, but not MAJOR in business, and not be able to transfer to Ross EVER. These are valid thoughts and since others here have been denied, I was curious to know what they think. Thanks @nicolasdeadman for your reply. I’m not sure what my son’s decision will be if he is denied.
@brantly same here. I don’t think people who don’t go Ross are lower ,but he already got accepted to UVA which is a great business school. He has half ride to Northeastern. Got into Emory business. On waitlist at Northwest. And still waiting for NYU, Georgetown & Carnegie Mellon. So Ross LSA is not a option. Plus my nephew graduated economics from U Mich & he thinks my son has better options.
@Ac832 Congratulations on UVA, that is quite an accomplishment , especially if you are out of state. My son was rejected. Got in Northeastern and Indiana, but has no interest. Waiting for Cornell, NYU, Duke, Princeton. Ross is still the dream (assuming the ivys don’t happen lol), but we’re getting frustrated since he was admitted to LSA in December and still nothing - despite great stats and legacy.
But I firmly believe everything happens for a reason and is for the best! Hopefully this process doesn’t drag out into JULY like it did for my daughter last year.
@holdingouthope Thanks! Good luck ! With the Ivys & rest. Will see where they end up. I’m sure all of them r good choices. They will be fine.
@Ac832 Congratulations to your S on his acceptances. I wanted to mention your comment that UVA is a great option as it is a great business school…It is great but your son isn’t in yet as there is no direct admit to McIntyre. He will have to apply during his second year and the Comm School program starts the third year. Getting into the Comm School isn’t easy. I am assuming that you know all this. Good luck to your son.
I was admitted early action in December and still have not heard back from Ross even though I applied November 1st before the priority deadline. How have I not heard anything back yet?
Because Ross does not evaluate the applications in the order in which the applicants were accepted to UMich.
I was admitted to LSA in march but there has been no update on my ross application at all…my LSA application still shows tho??
@brantly Do they wait until after the 2/1 deadline then begin to evaluate as a whole group vs rolling? That would make sense based on how decisions are coming out.
@umichross DS is in the same boat. Fingers crossed for both of you to hear back from them soon
@FoxRulz I’m not sure whether they start looking before 2/1. But I know they don’t stack the applications in order of date of acceptance to LSA.
Does anyone know when next results will come out?
@frosh22 Soon, I had a friend get accepted a few days ago.
