Ross only takes a very small amount of freshman and as a result, it is extremely competitive.

don't you have to apply into the business school in your sophomore year at Michigan to be accepted and start in your junior year?

no

You don't have to apply sophomore year. You can apply freshman year. However, the large majority of the admits to the B-School go to LS&A and then transfer into Business.

If you are worried about not getting into the general college, i'd suggest applying to a major where your sex would help you, because your major is pointless the first year (ex. Woman to Engineering or Man to Nursing, even if you have no intent). This way, you get in, take some general electives, and then transfer into the Business School.
