I definitely want to major in something biology related so I started off by majoring in bio engineering. I haven’t taken any engineering classes before but it seems really interesting and it can open a lot of doors later on.
I was accepted to Carnegie’s Mellon College of Science for biological sciences and was waitlisted to the engineering school. I was also accepted to Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts for cell and molecular biology and biomedical engineering.
My dilemma:
Carnegie is a few hours away from home and it has a great engineering program (and biology program?). Also, I kind of like the idea of going prestigious private school that is well known. However, the major “biological sciences” is pretty vague so I’m not sure how developed their program is compared to their computer science or engineering schools, which have top ratings nationally.
University of Michigan, on the other hand, is a plane ride away from home (and is apparently very cold) but is known for being an overall good school for their departments. I like how specified the major is and that it also includes biomedical engineering. I also heard that Ann Arbor is one of the best college towns but I’ve never visited.
What do you recommend/suggest?
(P.S. I’d love to also hear about your experiences at either/both schools)
Thanks!
