Just wanted to start a thread in case anyone is attempting to transfer for the Winter
I’ll pin this.
Has anyone applied yet?
Hello!
I’m in the middle of applying for next semester. I just transferred to MSU from a CC - I didn’t apply to UofM because honestly, I was afraid of getting rejected…but I’m not loving it where I’m at so might as well try. I’m just worried that my academics aren’t strong enough.
Here are my stats
I currently have 47 credits with a 3.174 GPA (From CC) - dropped from a 3.8 for personal reasons & I’m taking 14 credits this semester at MSU. I’ve been very involved in my community & on my CC campus and interned with a Senator over the summer. I graduated early in HS so not many accomplishments there & I got a 27 on my ACT but I don’t think they will really look at that. I’m also a first gen student…
What do you guys think? Or is it better to stay put and try in grad school?
I am by no means certain whether I’m correct in stating this, but from another student attending UM (we got accepted within the same week) there were claims that the school doesn’t usually accept/look at applications with a GPA below 3.3. This student informed me that he knew someone working with the committee.
Applying might be worth a shot because the school really does look at you as an entire person and if you are rejected, then you don’t need to worry about finding another school (as you already attend MSU).
Hi there, this is my second time applying as a transfer student. I am currently studying at MSU. I was rejected for fall 2018, as a freshman with 16 credits (30 if you count AP and other credit). However, in the middle of my rejection letter, there was this line:
“The quality of academic work you demonstrated last semester was impressive, and it was noted in the evaluation of your application.”
And at the end:
" If your interest in attending the University of Michigan continues, you should continue to build upon the strong academic performance you have shown and update your application for consideration for the next available term."
Is this the standard response?
My stats:
College G.P.A: 3.86
Major: Political science-prelaw
Minor: Arabic
Credits: 46
EC: MSU quiz bowl team, Audio enthusiasts and Engineers club, Lansing refugee development center volunteer/ tutor.
Job: I have a job this semester working in the political science division of Jackson National life insurance. About 20 hours a week.
High school G.P.A: 3.85 UW
SAT: 1260
HS EC: Too many to list, but lots of leadership positions (Drum Major, Quiz bowl captain, VP of freshmen mentor club, Secretary of BPA, etc.)
I also dual enrolled at Hillsdale College.
My second semester senior grades were terrible due to a poor class schedule, and sickness (mono for about a month.)
I’ve already “Updated my application term,” and sent in all the materials. What do you think my chances are this time around?
I’m applying for Winter Semester, plan on submitting application at the end of this week.
Are you applying ?
This is my second time applying because last semester the ask me for my TOEFL score and by the time I had the test score was to late for fall but now I have everything ready my gpa is 3.87 and have completed over 60 credits I have an associate already
applied last week! best of luck to everyone. Go Blue!
@granolast can you clarify how many essays you did? They have three different pages with three different answers and they just changed them from word limits to (much shorter) character limits.
And does the “one personal essay from the Common Application or Coalition Application” mean from the freshman applicant questions for their personal essay?
Did anyone get the email to set up your wolverine access yet?
Would it be too late to apply by this Friday 28th?
Or should I rush to apply asap?
@kcmytj if you really want to go to uofm, just apply. As long as you get it in by oct 1.
I applied via the Common Application. There were four essay questions that are required through that application route. I did find it frustrating how it was changed to a character limit vs the word limit. It significantly impacted my ability to fully convey the answer I could have provided if the limit was words vs characters. The essays were the following:
- If you could only do one of the activities you have listed in the Experiences section of your Common Application, which one would you keep doing? Why?
2)Everyone belongs to many different communities and/or groups de ned by (among other things) shared geography, religion, ethnicity, income, cuisine, interest, race, ideology, or intellectual heritage. Choose one of the communities to which you belong, and describe that community and your place within it.
- Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the speci c undergraduate College or School to which you are applying at the University of Michigan. How would that curriculum support your interests?
4)Please provide a statement that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.
Another PSA: I contacted admissions yesterday and was informed that with the migration to the traditional common app to common app transfer, the office of admissions is having technical difficulties with downloading the applications on there. They are hoping to have downloaded the submitted apps by friday. Traditionally with winter transfer, they review applications as they come in but they have been unable to do that thus far.
I just got off the phone with an admissions rep and she informed me that the problem is going to get resolved any moment, and 3-5 days after it does we will receive our confirmation email.
My wolverine access says winter 2019 now!
@stitch12345 I haven’t gotten the email to set up wolverine. Do u already have wolverine before?
