Thanks so very much!

It may have been I who linked them, asmy daughter attended Interlochen for 2 years. There used to be more of a connection. UMich used to have some of its all-state summer programs at Interlochen. I am confused at the moment as to whether the all-state MT was at Interlochen. To the best of my knowledge this is no longer the case. But certainly the Michigan connection exists. Some of UMich faculty work at Interlochen. When we walked around Interlochen 2 summers ago my husband spotted the admissions person who had interviewed our son (not MT) the previous winter. I think her husband worked in the Interlochen summer music program.

Didn't see that other post before I posted, but I think it confirms what I said.

For mine and all others auditioning first round this Friday

GOOD LUCK,
break a leg
and remember to have fun!

I will be thinking of you

xxx,Mary Anna

I will post on this thread with audition impressions as I get feed back.

Here is the report:

Great audition experience all the way around. But cold as crud!!!

30 total auditioned, 5 were boys

40 minutes of barre
Jazz combination, not too easy, not too difficult

piano went wonderfully

Singing went better than wonderfully. Had a good visit with faculty afterwards

Acting (this is the part I love!) was asked to do BOTH monologues.

That's all I can say at this point.

I am proud as punch.

Mary Anna -

Your post made me wonder - did you coach the current UM junior MT who is from Dallas? Or the other junior who is a Texan? (I'm not sure from where exactly.) Both are great girls!

Sounds like your student(s?) did well there today - it's SUCH a positive audition experience, one of the things that drew me to this program as a teacher/coach when my first student was admitted there several years ago. Did your student(s) get to sit in on class at all? Encourage your other auditionees to do so if they can get to Ann Arbor in time - this is what really made the decision to attend for some of my students who were weighing offers from UM and other top programs. But you may already know this, as you may have coached the current UM Texans! :)

Yours in "coaching,"

CoachC

Another thing I forgot to mention.

The first thing that happened was a one hour verbal/pictoral campus tour (it was too cold for a real tour) and then a group of seniors spoke to the group. My student said they were articulate, well groomed and enthusiastic cheerleaders for the school. Very impressive examples of what freshmen could become.

My student also attended the summer program last year so knew many of the faculty and felt so comfortable with old friends.
Also, enjoyed meeting chrism

xxx,Mary Anna

wait mary anna...was chrism there too, or did you mean me?

your student was very nice when i met her...michigan went well...and yes...5 boys...dance was really accomidating to all sorts of dancers. piano was good...singing and acting were very accomidating as well...

if anyone has questions about the u of m audition, and want to know first hand, pm me...

chris

Crisnoo, it was YOU. Getting my chrises mixed up.
So glad you all got together!

Coach, the girl from Dallas at UM studied voice with the same coach my student studies with. Hope the good vibes rub off. I have never worked with her, though.

xxx,Mary Anna

I had a great time there too! It was nice knowing there would be people I knew from here! I thought it was overall a great experience, and I agree with everything Mary Anna posted above. The students and faculty were all so nice and welcoming that they really made it a very enjoyable experience:)

Hi all -

Just talked to samia about the Feb. 3rd audition at UM, and she pointed out that there are NO hotel rooms available in the Ann Arbor area that weekend because the SUPERBOWL is in Detroit that weekend!!! I know I, for one, hadn't worried about hotel rooms for myself or my students auditioning - so I just wanted to let the rest of you know! Hopefully, in true CC fashion, you have all planned faaaaar ahead...:)

Thanks for the info, samia!

CoachC

Thanks Coach C and Samia for the "heads up"

I felt so scared and awful for potential auditioners (been there, done that) that I just checked Orbitz and they do show some rooms available for the night of Feb 2 (assuming auditioning on the 3rd and then getting the hell out of Dodge right after the audition that night). Granted they are not the hotels I'd describe as the "Ritz" of Ann Arbor but it is a roof over your head. But I would book NOW!

http://www.orbitz.com

You're right, theatermom -

samia actually found a great room for the night before the audition, at a reasonable price!!! The real problem occurs when you try to stay the night of the 3rd - not so much luck then. So as theatermom says, book now!

I just booked a decently-priced room on travelocity.com. Try there too. :)

I know I read about this somewhere else on CC-but cannot find it now. If you aren't totally sure which monologues you want to use in Feb or March for your U of M audition is it OK to put "undecided" on the application form? Or should you make your best guess and then call/write in to change later? I would appreciate advice.

Candylady,

I believe that it is fine to do either - write undecided or change your choices - as long as your final selections are communicated to the Audition Coordinator no later than 2 weeks before your scheduled audition. That is what my D did 2 years ago.

But as always, check with the School of Music admissions office to make sure that this is still acceptable this year. Contact phone numbers are on the following Michigan web page.

Hope this helps!

i changed my material...but i just told them ahead of time and they were like ok great!...so as long as you notify them

chris

Thanks, I did call the office and they said "undecided" was OK. Just need to let them know 4 weeks prior to audition the exact material.

phew. i sent my app in today.
